Agreed, a lot of Tokyopop's old stuff was pretty terrible. In fact, I refuse to buy or read their version of one of the canons I play from because it was so bad. (So bad, in fact, that I actually contacted Tokyopop myself to tell them that they'd messed something up. Hilariously enough, they offered me an internship there. Turning it down was in retrospect probably one of the best decisions I've made.)

These days, though, I can't really say I've encountered anything that was downright bad for years. There's been stuff where my reaction was "eh, I would've translated it this way," but it wasn't inaccurate, just a different interpretation. Which is totally valid, given how Japanese is as a language.
