I'm one of the 25-year-olds that responded. (The one paying my own way through college.) One day while I was feeling sorry about myself and moped to my Mom about being a "financial drain" she told me "Don't worry, you're not as bad as your brother."

My brother moved out a year ago when he got married, and is working a full time job, but is still struggling to pay rent, so my Mom pays the rent for them most months. He doesn't want it to be this way, but that's how things have worked out, and since his wife is going to school full-time it's difficult for her to get a job to help out (although she's been trying to find somewhere to work, too). Other than food and rent, I pay for everything myself--college, clothing, medical bills etc. It's not an ideal situation, but after seeing things from my Mom's perspective I do feel like I'm doing the best thing I can for my own personal situation right now.

I know there's probably people out there that are taking advantage of their parents or whatever (heck my sister-in-law's uncle is one of them, he lives with his mother/her grandmother and he's a millionaire), but personally I don't think it's a good idea to assume that unless you've got a solid reason to. You've got no idea what's going on in someone's life or their situations.
