it is hard to know exactly when it's going to come and have absolutely no control over it. it's very taxing stressing about the imminent depression you know is coming when you're in a good place. because you think "hey this time i won't let it control me i know what's going on i know when it's going to start" and literally the second it hits it's like "oh what's the fucking use anyway this happens every year no matter what i'm so fucking incompetent i can't even stop the depression i KNOW is coming blah blah pity party etc"

it's hard to describe to someone that isn't familiar with it but while SAD only affects people at certain times it sometimes seems even more futile because realistically you SHOULD be able to head it off or intervene or control it because you fucking know it's coming an entire year in advance every year. i'm not saying it's worse or better but it is it's own special kind of hell.
