Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Dragon Age

I want to play Hawke, but I don't really like the default appearance. If I was going to app into a game, would it seem like a big no no to use my own character design and screencap that?

i don't think it would be a big no no, but it might make people place you father toward the original character side of the video game pc spectrum.

People do it with their Shepards all the time I don't really get why the Hawkes are any different. I personally love Garrett's design, but hate Marian's and would likely never play her in a game as her default. If people get weird about it, they're just being super petty.

Please use your own design. I actually prefer it when people don't go with the default and it makes things more interesting. Plus it also helps when I had a character who was in a game with multiple Hawkes.

Thanks for the input. One other question. How do you guys handle the 'special powers' or Rogues and Warriors? I mean, technically they should just be badass normal. But then you have rogues turning invisible and teleporting, so it's hard to tell what to chalk down as game mechanics or legitimate special powers.

If a game depowers, I take away anything that would be physically impossible for a normal human being with exceptional training to do. If it doesn't, then I let them keep their fancy stuff.

i don't play a rogue or warrior and i think you should do what you want if the game will let you, but if i did play rogue hawke myself i would try to tone down the unrealistic parts or translate them into non-magicky skills. like making the invisibility into just a talent for stealth and keeping to shadows, the back-to-back teleporty bit into just being aware of comrades and able to get to them quickly, that sort of thing. video game fight mechanics don't translate directly into more realistic written fights anyway. outside a video game hawke isn't going to have to slash at something in the face or stab it in the back that many times before it will fall down, either, so instead of writing her (or him) going invisible and then slicing and dicing an enemy at length i'd do more attack-from-shadows, stab-once-in-the-right-place stuff.
