I threw my pie for you

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

You're not. General flooding of the network aside, people have figured out since IC Day 2 and announced almost all the game mechanics, the creepy locations, and where to move in and start setting up projects. And just glancing through the main community, there's references to the phase names, Lovecraftian horror, and the Project Head, none of which even make sense unless you're infomodding.

Since everyone got here on the night of Day 1, that was all almost entirely done in one day or less of IC exploration. I get the feeling it's people needing to be first at doing something, and it's a little disheartening to see our new setting losing all its IC mystery already.

are phase names even mentioned IC? at all? ever??

I don't think the way phases work is IC knowledge, no. Or I don't see how it could be, since Alpha and Beta weren't that similar to begin with.

It's a relatively minor detail on its own, but all the examples I listed in conjunction with each other makes it feel like people are jumping the gun and using OOC knowledge to get them IC attention. More likely because of excitement than being inconsiderate, but it's still sort of annoying, especially from a playerbase that's ripped people apart for it previously.

to be fair, they could have just come up with the names themselves since alpha, beta, etc. are often used as variables and can easily be substituted for first, second, third and so on. it's easier to give each 'stage' a title or nickname when referring to them imo.

are these new people or someone who knows about the first two stages?

the project head was brought up and called 'the project head' to my character back in beta by a character who had been there for a while.

phase names seem new.

AYRT. Sorry, I was referring to the fact that there has been no sign of there being a Project Head yet, so it's infomodding to know that there is one. Same vein as somehow knowing there's something Lovecraftian about the place, especially since Lovecraft's stories were usually set in more rural locations. The term 'the Project Head' is fine.

I wouldn't call it infomodding. If you're referring to Kirk, he was there in the Beta phase where there was a Project Head. With COMPASS still in charge, it's ICly reasonable for him to assume there's another Project Head now that they've been brought back. There's been no proof of it yet, but it doesn't seem like a huge leap for him to make.

A character from Beta mentioning the Project Head is perfectly IC, because after the recent to-do with the PH, it's natural to assume that everything bad happening is because of him, whether they're right or wrong.

I don't think acting dead certain that there's a Project Head is perfectly IC. It's more likely that it was a minor overlooked detail because we're all used to there being a PH to fight and it was a generic let's beat the bad guys post. Same reason people are still slipping up and calling the devices "compasses." It's not a big deal on it's own.

The issue I had was that multiple people were doing this in their excitement for the new phase. The network looked like people scrambling to beat others to revealing things or becoming the new "leader" figures, and some unreasonable progress and conclusions were being made. It's a combination of minor, likely accidental infomodding en masse and terrible pacing.

Basically: I think it would benefit the game overall if everyone slowed down, read over their posts a few times to check for OOC spoilers, and considered tagging what's already out there instead of flooding the networks with new things because they felt they were racing the rest of the playerbase. It's not a competition, though with the ridiculous leadership race EV has, it often feels that way.

Well, congrats. Now everyone's too scared to do shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
What I said amounted to wanting people to tag around and check for accidental infomodding before they post. These are not new or scary concepts.

And that's fine, but you have to admit anons here are nitpicking.
