Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I want a character who is incredibly damaged and hides their dysfunctions under a layer of superficial charm or sometimes outright jackassery. They can be morally gray, but not irredeemably evil. I do love a good redemption story, though. They should be charming, intelligent and capable of dishing out sarcasm when they have to. They should NOT be irritating, melodramatic or wangsty.

Tarrlok from Legend of Korra.

Might want to add to that: he's an ambitious, conniving politician whose sometimes ruthless self-aggrandizing comes from a determined attempt to overcome some serious issues from his past.

Dr. House?

(ymmv on the irritating and melodramatic elements with him, unfortunately.)

Dr. Cox from Scrubs also fits this type pretty well. Middle-aged divorced doctor who's still carrying a torch for his ex, is secretly a huge idealist but has been ground down by job stress into bitter cynicism and secret petty plots against people he hates in management. Smart and sarcastic, but terrible at "charming."

I want to say Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It. He can be charming when he wants, is definitely intelligent and full of quips (sarcasm as well as outright insults). He toes the Villain Protagonist line a lot - he's between a villain and an anti-hero.

Zevran Arainai from Dragon Age, if you don't find his hitting on anything that moves irritating. He was born into circumstances that made being sold to be groomed into an assassin from childhood the lesser of two evils, he doesn't have a huge sense of self-worth but carries it around with a surprisingly upbeat attitude, is uncomfortable with honest ~feelings~ and hides behind it through wisecracking and superficial charm, and secretly hates knowing how callous and emotionally shallow he is even though he's still not sorry for his profession.

Cara from Legend of the Seeker. There's also the book series (Sword of Truth) but I find the show infinitely better and there's only two seasons. She's beyond damaged and hides it under layers of badassery. Definitely morally grey, has a good redemption story, and sarcasm is her middle name.

Isaac or Stiles from Teen Wolf.
