I threw my pie for you

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Aria T'Loak | Mass Effect

I'm not sure how to handle someone so ambitious in a game. It feels like CR might be hard for her to acquire seeing as she'll want to take control of everything.

At the same time, as the Omega DLC shows, she's willing to work with people to get what she wants, even if they have viewpoints different from hers. ICR actually shouldn't be hard; she just needs to find people that are willing to work with her and form strategic partnerships with them.

Not necessarily. She took control of Omega, but she stopped there - she's smart enough to know her own limits. And, as above anon said, to work with other people to achieve her goals, rather than demanding they work for her when she doesn't have any real authority (and will probably not be the most powerful person in the room, given some of the godmodes out there).

Thank you for your help! I have a few things to think about from this. (thanks to the anon above, too!)

I think now, though, I'm having trouble deciding what her major driving force would be in a game. I know she would want to get back to Omega, but I also think she's intelligent enough to realize that if there was no way for her to leave the game's setting, she should adapt to a more capable goal. I'm sure she would keep searching for a way to get home... it's just that I can see her wanting to live comfortably in the meantime, and I'm not sure how she would go about that. Do you think if she was stuck in a jamjar setting long enough she would want to rebuild her throne? Do you think she would try to control the lawless so she would have some kind of rule to keep her busy until she gets back to Omega, or do you think she would just like to stay somewhere safe and keep tabs on everything going on, hopefully to find information on getting out of wherever she is?

Or maybe none of that. I'm pretty shaky on this, as you can tell.

It probably depends on the setting of the game, and what avenues are open for characters to amass power. Dystopian setting with limited resources? Stockpile, and use those resources to build a powerbase and collect favors owed. Urban setting with an economy and criminal enterprise? Maybe get a toe-hold in there and start building an empire. Violent horror setting? Gather an elite strike force to deal with the monsters and/or push back against the mod NPCs, while working to create a safe zone if it's possible to do so - not out of altruism but because it'd both keep her ass safer and mean the characters who're noncombatants but still have useful skills owe her.

Thank you so much! These are a lot of good ideas and I definitely have a clearer view of how to handle her longterm. I think I've gotten confident enough to apply her somewhere, so thank you again!!!!!! You are my hero.

I think she would definitely work on building a power base wherever she got stuck, recruit some and simply stay aware of others, but not play it safe because playing it safe is for weaklings.

It would be more about building respect than creature comforts, though she'd probably like the latter as well.

Yeah, that kind of attitude is what I was leaning towards... I think I've got it all down, now. Thank you so much for the help, it means a lot!
