Badly's an adverb

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I still wish there was an actual comm for fandom discussions, though. Not like wankdom - I don't want to talk about hate all the time, and I don't necessarily have to be anon. I just miss how LJ comms used to have actual discussions about plot and symbolism and pairings and fic and all that stuff. There's none of that on DW, and Tumblr just isn't much of a substitute when you can't really comment. Reblogging is so awkward, and the discussions end up lost in all the fanart posts anyway. As much as I dislike LJ, we had a really good thing going there.

those sorts of comms were dead on lj anyway

but yeah i definitely agree, particularly as tumblr is one of the worst places to have any sensible discussions on by the very nature of the reblogging format

i just want to talk about stuff i like again and be really self-indulgent

Really? For several of my fandoms, the LJ comms were still doing well right up until a significant fraction of the fans (RPers) all left. I'm still in a couple of relatively active LJ discussion comms and fic meme comms for my older fandoms, but everything else is a ghost town now.

wow really? all my fandoms (most of which are still popular) were complete ghost towns when it came to their lj comms

the only exception being kink memes obv

/r/asoiaf

if you like asoiaf

but don't use reddit for deep anime discussions though

OMG, I tried Reddit for anime discussion. Just... no. If you think the neckbeards are strong here, it's ALLLLLLLL neckbeard over there. The discussions on 4chan are better, and that's saying something.

yeah sadly they have a terrible group of redditors on the anime subreddits...but it's a really good place for discussing books, tv shows, and movies.

I feel you, anon, which is why I went and made a fandom comm here on DW. It's not a big fandom so it's not hustling and bustling but I've met a few new cool cats through it.

:o Where? It's good to know that there are some comms here!

see, I see this complaint on fandomsecrets all the time and I agree, but really, the reason there's nothing on DW is because no one is making and maintaining comms. it's pretty clear people would jump on these comms if they existed, so why don't we just make them exist?

I know because effort. but if somebody doesn't, nobody will and we'll all still sit here complaining about how we miss meta discussions.

people do make comms, though. then no one joins, and they get discouraged and abandon them.

it's just like with dwrp games - people make new, interesting games, but they fail if they can't attract a certain number of players quickly because people are sheep and they'll only post to a place that already has activity.
