Badly's an adverb

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

How did "gross" become so popular in SJW-ish circles? It's easy to see how problematic did, since it's versatile as a passive aggressive way of putting judgement in the context of concern, but gross is just aggressive aggressive. Is it because the same crowd tends to be attracted to cutesy infantile language in general?

what the hell are you talking about

"gross" is colloquial

It kinda has a special usage in those circles though, usually referring to unpleasant implications. I could be making too strict of an association though.

It's a colloquialism that makes them sound like eight-year-old girls talking about boys. "Ew, gross!"

because "dumb" and "lame" and "stupid" aren't sjw appropriate and "fucked up" sounds too aggressive when their point is to try and be condescending?

but the cutesy infantile language probably has something to do with it. the whole point is that they want to sound like they're talking down to a misbehaving five year old all the time

to me it's just that there are a lot of things i'd describe as "disgusting," but ime that implies something with a lot more intent and malice than the kind of things i'd use "gross" to refer to

i always assumed everyone else was using it the same way/for the same reasons in this context, but tbh who can say
