Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Three eyed/monster Cecil is really dull and lazy, imo. I think this post on Tumblr (http://iambickilometer.tumblr.com/post/56447049923/i-am-of-course-a-fan-of-people-interpreting-media) hits the nail on the head, except that I disagree with the last part. Please stop running wild with this. Stop. It's boring and frustrating how this has become the default in the fandom when it misses the point so enormously.

(I am a little leery of the way some people insist Cecil MUST be Native American because of his attitude to the Apache Tracker, because he acts less like someone who is personally hurt by this kind of thing and more like someone who is concerned the Apache Tracker's basic ignorant faux pas is making the rest of us look bad. I don't think that means he CAN'T be Native American and I'm all for picturing him that way or any way just because the fact he has no face means he can look whatever way we want, just that it's kind of weird to say he HAS to be.)

Oh, definitely, I agree with that post too except the last part, it's everywhere in fandom and I'm kind of growing sick of it even though some designs are really cool.

Also, I always sideeye the people who constantly bash on other people for having white-skinned Cecil, complaining about "whitewashing" him when...he doesn't actually have a canon skin color at all? I mean, I love having Cecil not be white too, but please don't treat that like it's Word of God. I mean, the narrator who does Kevin in the Sandstorm episode is actually African American, and yet I've seen nobody complaining about fanarts of white-skinned Kevin. Of course, narrators do not equal their characters, but at the same time, I really hate that some people seem to assume their headcanon is "more valid" than other people's headcanon when there is no canon basis for that headcanon at all.

Yeah, some of the designs really are cool, I just feel like they're not right for Cecil at all. I really like the interesting (terrifying) designs that have been going around for Old Woman Josie's angels, and I definitely think there's room for that kind of thing, but I think all those extra eyes don't belong on Cecil's face.

I'm not really big on white Cecil just because there's so many things with white guys in them and if you can draw/fancast/imagine him as anything other than white without people telling you you're wrong then it's a shame when people don't go for it, you know what I mean? It's disappointing to see people default to that when they don't have to – people complaining about seeing so much of it is pretty justified imo. Nobody's headcanon is more valid when it comes to race and 'whitewashing' is obviously not what the issue is here so much as people just assuming white as default, but I don't think that white headcanons really need to be defended and I can't blame people for finding their prevalence aggravating.

I swear that last paragraph trips over itself in trying to look nice and tolerant. Judge if you judge, man!

Haha maybe I just worded myself poorly! I'm not really judging particularly, though. I don't have any particular investment in Cecil looking any way except for 'normal number of eyes' but I don't like the idea that irritation at white Cecil is baseless.

I'm totally cool with POC Cecil headcanons, but also Cecil seems to me to be way too flippant about frontiersman rolling in and wiping out anyone who came before them in the History Week episode for me to completely buy it.
