Badly's an adverb

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Get rid of the couch and call an exterminator NOW. Don't wait on this shit. It's serious. You will not be able to get rid of those things on your own. If it's an apartment complex, inform your landlord since they're responsible for exterminators.

Again, DO NOT WAIT and hope this will go away on its own. It won't.

yes and then burn her. or other order. just make sure the second thing gets done.

you don't have to burn the whole place down but i highly suggest calling your landlord and informing them of the problem. anons above are making it sound like the end of the world but it isn't. they can be exterminated but it's a bitch trying to get rid of them, especially on your own. you have to be diligent and patient

you're gonna have to steam a lot of stuff and i'd recommend getting food grade D.E. (diatomaceous earth). make sure it's food grade, dust it in corners and near baseboards. move all furniture away from the walls. remove any clutter. get mattress and ESPECIALLY box spring encasements (the kind with zippers

wow

judging by the replies to this i suppose i should count myself lucky i've never encountered bed bugs

They are a pain in the ass. It's not necessarily a 'dirty person/homeless/welfare' person problem as much as it is that they're just that bad.

Someone who has them sits on a bus. You sit on the seat later. You pick it up. You go home. Now you have bedbugs. They transfer so easily and it's not like they're these huge bugs you can always see. They breed like mad and they get in places that boggle the mind. Generic bug killer doesn't really work on them and if you miss one little then when trying to get rid of them, you have to go through the whole song and dance again.

They're from Australia. This should clue you in to how nasty they are.

1. tell your landlord if you're renting. a lot of them have contracts with exterminators and can get reduced rates.
2. stop blamimg your roommate's friend, it will get you nowhere. you have absolutely no way of knowing where the bedbugs came from. and it's not surprising to find one where someone was sitting. they feed on human blood, remember? a bedbug infestation takes about a month or two before it's easily noticeable (i.e. you see a bedbug) and not everyone has allergic reactions to the bites. for all you know, you could be the "gross" one.
3. that said, check your couch for more and for blood spots/bedbug shit. check your other furniture, too. try to catch one alive if you find it, and show it to the exterminator.
4. if you're in the u.s. and not in a state with a large city, there's a good chance the landlord will shift the cost of treatment on to you. if you live in a complex, there's an even better chance you already signed a bedbug clause saying exactly that. a lot of states don't have laws protecting tenants from bedbug infestations. treatment can be anywhere from $500-$1500 depending on how many rooms are treated, and with what.
