Badly's an adverb

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

are you talking about anonies, or do other groups exist?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-29 12:12 am (UTC)(link)

i like a lot of aspects of dwrp (particularly things like panfandom games and the large range of canons around) but i'm bored of my game and the whole attitude around here (both wankgate and plurk) is starting to drive me crazy

idk i doubt there are many places much different (and tumblr rp is far, far wankier) but it's worth a shot

you're not the only one. i'd suggest forum rp, but it's mostly oc games and tbh the ooc attitudes are not that different (although wank and nitpicking tend to stay more localized within games).

so my suggestion is to stick to museboxing or small, private games. once you find a good group of players and you free yourselves from all of the hassles of apps and ac and hmds and one-size-fits-all jamjars, you can actually communicate with other players and have fun rping.

yeah i was considering museboxing actually, but i would need to go out on a search for them since there's no one in my game that i know well enough to do that sort of stuff with

thanks for the advice again

try

fandom_psls (IJ) - for fandom-based psls
slashsls (IJ) - if you like slash
darkersls (IJ) - for dark stuff, ob
find_a_partner (IJ) - for general stuff

i personally think IJ is the best for finding psl partners

if you rp anime though you might have tougher luck, i feel like the anime community isn't that big there

but you should be golden for other fandoms or originals

Do you really have to go to Wankgate or use Plurk? As far as I see, neither are necessary in order to rp here at DW. It's not the fault of those two places if you can't enjoy rp'ing.

I've read Wankgate twice in my whole life and that happened about a year ago. I hardly even know what Plurk is and honestly don't understand what it has to do with rp'ing at DW. Do people use it to talk about their characers/games or what?

If I want to talk to my rp partners, I just message them from my character's journal. Nobody has ever had a problem with that.

It's your choice. If you feel like you have to do what others do (be that reading wank posts or using "Twinklr") then nothing is going to change even if you switch from DW to another forum/comm. People are the same everywhere.

People use Plurk pretty much the way they used to use AIM. It's for OOC contact and plotting where you can reach multiple people at the same time. It's more convenient than AIM because messages stay up and you don't have to be online at the same time for the conversation to take place. A cast member from another time zone can read the conversation and contribute, and the other cast members will see what was said and can still respond when they're back on.

You can also build a decent rapport with your fellow players a little easier than by sticking strictly to PMs. That's all a matter of personal preference. I've gotten by just fine in games without Plurk in the past. I like it now for its convenience.

Ok, thanks for explaining that. I haven't really needed to plot with several people at the same time.

The only exception I remember was when someone made a locked entry in their character's journal and invited people there to discuss things. I think those people had AIM but they still decided to keep all (or most) discussions on the game's ooc comm or in their journals. I wasn't made to feel bad for not using AIM.

I still stand by my words that it's possible to stay away from nasty things if you choose to do so.

Oh, it definitely is, and you can even stay away from nasty things while using Plurk. Take care who you add on your timeline and mute topics you don't want to read about. I avoid personal drama stuff except for actual friends. It has worked out for me.

Forum rp primarily geared towards erotic rp but you can run gen stuff there too. It's a very active community and I've had fun there.

The application process does take a week or so and there's a few hoops to jump through with that but it's easy enough and there's also the chance of meeting someone to write with.
