Badly's an adverb

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Have you ever thrown a book? (Out of rage at the book, not what it was thrown at.) Inspired by one anon's comment on Stranger in a Strange Land.

yes

Yes.

Specifically, the book Reviving Ophelia by some psychologist. My dad gave it to me, saying it "opened his eyes" and "made him think". I can't explain why but I got incredibly angry when reading it.

Yes

...I should have added "what and why".

no but my friend threw fellowship of the ring clear across the room and at a wall when bombadil came back into the story

Ok, that's hilarious.

+1 I would have done this too, anon, but my copy was two inches thick.

otoh I threw Order of the Phoenix at someone because it was two inches thick, and thinking back I wish it was something the book had done.

yep

actually I think I also threw Stranger in a Strange Land. there was at least one other and I can't remember which. might have been one of the Sword of Truth books.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-28 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
what is the context of this question? where did anon mention throwing it?

One of Wankgate's derails, about the worst book you've ever read (specific comment is here: http://wankgate.dreamwidth.org/18794.html?thread=60438378#cmt60438378). As for why I asked I always find it funny when people literally throw books. You can't do that with TV shows or movies or video games without hurling something really expensive.

That fucker was hardback too, I put a mark in my wall.

so often. the one that actually left a little chip in the wall was lord of the flies, tho.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-28 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No but next time I read a book that would incite such a reaction I will not hold back!

To the Lighthouse, by Virginia Woolf.

I know it's great literature, but the way my lit prof kept trying to psychoanalyze every character from a Lacanian perspective pretty much made me hate it enough.

I actually threw it in the trash.

An Inspector Calls. I used it as a "prop" in an assignment for class but it was basically because the play made me so annoyed.
