Anons, I want to play Hange. But there have been debates about Hange's gender because of a question posed to the author and his reply, and now I don't know what gender to go with without offending anyone. Halp?

at the risk of starting a shitstorm

the author's said he doesn't care what people personally decide for character gender, with the other example being that people could read armin as female if they wanted. but kodansha translates hange as female and that's an official source, so i think you could safely use female pronouns.

it was a stupid question posed in the first place because any proper terms you use towards someone in her position are going to be gender neutral in Japanese. if anything, people not being able to tell Hange was female was a dig at the author's artwork and he decided to troll people as a result.
