I take them from the canon's time period unless the game specifies that everyone is updated to the current standards of modern technology. If you play someone from 20-30 years ago like they're from today you're not being IC. It's lime someone else said. It's AU.

There were cell phones in the 80s. They were carried around in cases about the size of clunky briefcases and ridiculously huge. I'd advise doing a tech history search for anything you're in doubt about.

you haven't been missing out on much. i've had a couple of good threads there, but the average quality is not that great and 90% of everything I've played gets dropped if it goes on for more than 24 hours.
