Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

ATARAXION

Anon here thinking of apping in in August. What can you tell me about the game?

I'm familiar with the premise, but I'm curious what people think of the game, its pacing, etc. Thanks!

I'm newer to the game (I apped in the last three months or so) but one thing I will say is that people tend not to boomerang. Or at least, the people I've threaded with. There are some notable exceptions, but it seems pretty normal for me to wait 1-3 days for a network tag, and longer for an action log.

That could just be the people I've threaded with thus far, and it doesn't really bother me as my schedule tends to be pretty tight. I was just surprised that for a "fast" and "big" game, that's how the playerbase paces itself.

I don't see a whole lot going on with more of the creepy sci-fi elements, which I find a little disappointing, but I haven't felt settled, or really had time to involve myself in the plot yet, so that might just be a me-thing. Either way, I've had no problem getting CR, it's just been a lot of "you're knew, this is how this works", which is helpful, but not quite what I expected from the game.

Again, these are all just my observations, and a more long term player might have different opinions, but there you go.

i've been in the game for a while now, and i can definitely say that it's very much ymmv when it comes to your general experiences. personally, i really enjoy it, but it can be a struggle at times. despite its size, ax is actually a fairly slow paced game, which is perfect for me but it could be an issue for others. that said, there are a lot of people in the game who play at a faster pace too, so it's possible to find people who'll play at a quicker pace if that's what you're used to.

the game's currently running a lot slower than normal, thanks mostly to hiatuses/con season/holidays/etc, but it should hopefully pick back up again soon. the same stands for the mod plot. we had a heavy period of plots going on, so i think the mods have taken a step back for a while to let things settle. there's still other bits and pieces going on at the moment though, so it's possible to get involved with the plot even while things are seemingly calm/quiet.

there's been a lot of mention over the months about it being difficult to get involved with the game, and i won't lie to you. that's definitely true of some characters. if you have a cast in the game or are friends already with other players, you'll definitely find it easier to get involved. if you have a set plan for your character before joining too, that helps a lot. but it isn't impossible to get involved as long as you're willing to tag out/put in the effort (which stands for all games really). i've played characters who've slid straight in and i've had no issues with, and characters who i've had nothing but trouble with. it can get a little frustrating at times, but i've never found ax any worse in that regards than any other game i've played in, regardless of size/anon talk. there's always someone willing to tag you, even if it takes a couple of days. again, this isn't a fast game, so patience is a must. i've had threads go on for months before. but you quickly learn who's willing to backtag forever, who boomerangs, and who drops.

oh also, ax is a game that definitely requires a lot of ooc communication if you want in-depth cr. so while i know a lot of people don't like using it, plurk is a bonus in this game (or using the ooc comms/pms heavily). aim has sadly taken a backseat for plotting purposes.

i hope that helps a little! if you have any other questions, i'll be keeping an eye on this thread.
