Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

And don't casually compare it to generic non-canon shipping. It isn't the same thing and you're just using it to justify something that is beyond out of character for the characters involved and yes, it is disgusting. If you want to bend characters so far from what they are and make them do vile, gross, and illegal things they would never do then play a different character or an OC. ESPECIALLY in the case of Damian or Bruce.

Get over it and stop crying kinkshame like you're being persecuted.

i really don't understand putting, like, tim/jason on the same level as bruce/jason, or even dick/tim

yes, they are legally related, so that causes some issues, but there's no westermarck effect going on here, they didn't even meet until tim was in his late teens

you could even take tim before he's officially adopted and WOW suddenly you don't even have to deal with that crap

the same goes for tim/cass, i don't ship it at all but i don't think it's OMG GROSS

People are allowed to find it kinky if they want to. But there are major problems here on both an IC and OOC level.

Firstly, it's not even remotely in character for the Robins to be fucking, with Tim and Steph being the on exception. It isn't IC for Dick to fuck Tim. Or Jason. Or Bruce. And it's especially not IC for him to fuck Damian. It's not IC for Jason to fuck any of them either, nor for Tim, etc. Those men would never ICly engage in that behavior. There is no argument you can make to justify it without reaching Chancery Stone levels of delusion.

Secondly, you're continuing to treat an issue that can cause a lot of psychological damage like its something as fun and harmless as BDSM or water sports. Believe it or not, but there are people in the RP world who have been abused in this way, and to have it talked about like it's just something sexy that siblings do sometimes is grossly insensitive to other players and shows a lack of understanding necessary to accurately portray men as savvy as the ones in that family. They'd understand the psychological consequences. It's a pity so many players don't.

Totally new nonnie here but the fact that you just said BDSM and water sports are 'fun and harmless' makes me rather leery of your logic here.

Here's the thing you're forgetting, nonnie, if you don't like reading it, click the back button. I personally am not a fan of Batcest but these broad, sweeping generalizations being tossed around here are ridiculous.

Also, I can speak from personal experience as someone who has been sexually abused by a family member when I say that I don't find people writing out Batcest as being 'grossly insensitive' to my delicate sensibilities. Again, I don't support the Batcest cause here, I just find your tone and message wholly unsavory. Truth be told, anon, considering the amount of kink shaming you've done thus far, I can't help but wonder if you should take this over to some SPN thread and rage against the PLETHORA of Wincesters out there. That I find ten times more offensive than people slashing adopted siblings together.

Either way, why don't you put your broad sweeping generalizations away and just simply say you don't care for it and click the back button on your browser the next time you come across some icky Batcest thread on BS.

There's absolutely a difference between consenting parties participating in BDSM or other kinks and the perception that psychologically healthy people engage in incest. The reason I listed those kinks was because I don't think people need to be ashamed of being kinky. I do think people need to take a step back before they proliferate the harmful notion that incest is healthy or natural.

I'm also someone who was extensively victimized by relatives in the past. So while I feel sympathy for your situation and am glad that you don't have a problem with having incest portrayed in a positive light, keep in mind that others of us deal with our trauma differently. Your experience is not my experience, so kindly keep your judgments on that matter to yourself.

And if this stuff was isolated to BS, I would be glad to scroll right on by. But unfortunately it's seeped into many aspects of the DC fandom. Just type in the Tumblr tag for any of the Robins and you'll get a nice dose of what I'm talking about. God forbid you just wanted to look up scans or fan art of Dick Grayson because you will be bombarded with incest. And nine times out of ten there are no warnings on any of it. It's like a sickness that attracts the worst kind of fan girls: ones who don't give a flying fuck about characterization in favor of flowery romantic buttsex and would rather make people uncomfortable than do the decent thing and put up some damn warnings.

You know what else isn't healthy or natural?

Being a superhero.

It's fucking fantasy. Get over yourself.

And no one with any functioning brain cells gives a shit about SPN.

First, nice try, but no I don't feel persecuted. I don't play a member of the batfam and I actually don't personally ship incest relationships (adopted or otherwise). I don't personally LIKE the kink, but I think it's bull shit to accuse someone of not caring about characterization at all because of something they wrote on a ~RANDOM PORN~ meme. I'm not even talking about people who are notoriously out of character even in games, I'm talking about people shipping what they want on a meme that has no bearing on game or canon events.

Second, I didn't compare it to generic non-canon shipping because guess what? All non-canon ships are ooc! We're all supposed to be in this for fun. If you don't find it fun then scroll on past. Just know that you finding it gross does not make that person a bad writer. That's my point.

To specify I compared it to playing in a game because playing ooc kinky shit on a meme and playing it in a game are two different things entirely (unless the game is COA then at least half of that is the point).

All non-canon ships are ooc!

I see this often enough that it sincerely makes me wonder how deluded you need to be to believe this. A ship being non-canon is not by nature OOC because not every character is involved in a canon ship. If a character isn't changing their personality dramatically to suit the ship, it's not OOC. Certain characters have romantic and/or sexual chemistry with one another regardless of whether or not they're from the same canon. Nothing about that is OOC.

But this gets trotted out every time someone tries to defend their ship from criticism and I just don't get it.

You are right, at least, that if it's in memes and shit, people probably shouldn't care, but still. Get a better argument.
