true enough. i guess i should specify that, even if thread op isn't calling people socially awkward losers to their faces, if that's what they're thinking to themselves, that sort of attitude will come through and put people off. on the other hand being a needy ass licker is equally unattractive, but if what they crave so badly is attention and popularity, they will probably end up going down that path if they care so much about what other people think.

so really, the middle path you mentioned is probably the only desirable road for op to take - to get over their need for attention while simultaneously looking down on the people from whom they crave that attention, and learn to be content with what they do have.
