Anons, I'm curious. What kind of etiquette is there for photoshopping PBs? Not for anything especially unnatural either. I understand this could get into some dicey territory which is why I'm asking.

just don't photoshop icons the maker's said you shouldn't (if it's something little like eye color some may say yes if you ask them) and you're golden

what dicey territory were you thinking of? whitewashing/tanning? frankenpbs?

As I'd be altering them like that I'll probably just do them myself so permissions shouldn't be a problem from that angle.

Skintone is my biggest issue right now though, unfortunately. I'm finding pbs that are fine expression/facial structure wise but I just cannot see this character as white no matter how far I tilt my head. I don't think this would be as much of an issue if I were looking in an older age bracket but uh, there's a surprising dearth of non-white child actors apparently.

i think you might get some shit for essentially doing black/brownface on white pbs but i'd be willing to go look for some non-white kid actors for you if you gave a character description/age range!

Yeah that's what I was worried about :( I'm not that desperate yet but I figured I'd go ahead and ask.

but omg thank you for the offer! Still looking myself but I am completely open to suggestions. She's about 12 years old, mixed race (and when i say mixed I mean like a little of everything, the ambiguously brown trope is kind of at play here) with straight dark hair, and is kind of a scruffy street kid so obvious makeup/disney star wardrobes wouldn't make a lot of sense. A lot of this is negotiable/subjective though too so I'm willing to take a look at almost anything at this point.

How about Keke Palmer? She was 11 in the movie The Wool Cap. I'd say these are as street-kid icons as you can get, so hopefully her appearance is what you're looking for.
