did the mods seriously accept a character from that pedo canon?

kodomo no jikan. it's pretty unapologetically romanticizing lolicon.

maybe the mods are like me and had no idea what kawawhateva is.

i will say that i quickly wikipedia'd it and read up on it a bit, and even though i think it's pretty fucking weird they accepted the character, i will say they increased her age to sixth grade instead of third in the app. i still think it's pretty gross and offputting, but... maybe the mod didn't know. aside from one line saying the show deals with some child sexuality, there isn't much mention of it in the app of that journal.

still makes me want to shudder. yuck

the player has a permissions post with an opt-out. is it really that big a deal? just the fact that the character exists shouldn't have people handwringing like this.

i think it bothers some people that loli is really bordering on pedophilia. we don't exactly glamourize that in the USA. that being said, i never said they can't play whatever character they want... but people have the right to an opinion to not be into it or even to be disgusted as well. that's the wonderful thing about opinions, they're like assholes... everyone has one

I don't know the canon, but playing from a series that involves skeevy subjects like juvenile sexuality shouldn't necessarily be a dealbreaker or reflect ill on the player. It all depends on their intentions in the game and approach to the character.

Hi! So sorry I didn't see this before, but I feel like you have a perfectly valid concern and I'd really like to make our motivations totally open to the community here.

We really sat down and discussed her app when it first came in. Ultimately, we decided that since this game has such a heavy emphasis on excavating the depths of character psychology -- why not? We felt like this character had something truly unique to explore through our advisor posts and questionnaires. If she seemed less receptive to the idea in her application (or wasn't a constant source of rabble-rousing fun in-game), the outcome probably would have been way different. I understand this explanation may not be eeeeveryone's cup of tea, but we stand behind our potential players as long as they come to us with good ideas and a good attitude.

So sorry if we scared you off! I promise you, everyone here is amazing at what they do and I wouldn't have them any other way. (:

Tacking on to this! Rin is precocious and that's a part of her character, but that's certainly not all there is to her. I chose this game since it explores character psychology and hers is very damaged. I would love to see her grow (or break down and go Lord of the Flies up on the island).

All that being said, I encourage any potential applicants that her presence would be a deal breaker for to use my opt out post. I understand that the content of her series and her general behavior can be triggering for some people and will not take it personally in the least. If she ever goes beyond harmless flirtatious marks, I plan to put content warnings in the subject lines (and obviously ask any players that might be involved first, too!).

Even more effective than an opt-out post?

Opting out of the game entirely. Too gross to deal with.
