Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

How do games react to OCs whose origins are steeped in MMO worlds, and does anyone have recommendations for bringing them in?
Anon is tempted to try DWRP after 5 years of being out of the game.

i was just about to be like, i have good luck with my character! but then i saw the anon above me already... said that. so. speaking as the ragnarok online dude over at exsilium, i really don't think it matters where your OC comes from. who is going to quiz a character about their home world, except for the once-in-a-blue-moon curious character with a super patient player?

what's important is that the character is fleshed out enough to be able to come off as believable and well-rounded. you might have to invent a whole lot of headcanon about the MMO to do that, because a lot of them just don't have the detail available. but on the other hand, who's going to give a shit if you do? even if you get "canonmates" who disagree, you can say they came from slightly different versions of the same world.

icons, i will admit, can be the hard part. i'm so damn glad i can draw my own, i have no idea what i'd do for them otherwise. in-game sprits are never terribly expressive.
