seven years can change a person, especially in Phoenix's case, who was spending those years trying to catch Kristoph because the man had framed him (Phoenix) for forging evidence. undoing all that simply because you didn't like the personality that resulted from said experiences and character development is shit writing. period.

if they wanted to show that Phoenix still had some of his pre-time skip self, ok. however, it's still bad writing if Phoenix is going to be visibly sweating bullets when they already established in a previous game that his post time skip self is able to unconsciously keep up a cool poker face 95% of the time.

aj was bad writing on capcom's part. they're now going back on it. i am much happier being able to ignore the fact aj-phoenix's personality ever happened. yeah, a person can change in seven years, but aj phoenix is completely fucking unrecognizable, and just about everything that made him a fun, likable character is gone.

also, who the hell would enjoy playing a game where the main character doesn't show emotion 95% of the time?? that would've been a thoroughly moronic decision.

They've established in the fourth case of AJ that Phoenix is still the same guy the fans knew despite keeping on a cool face most of the time, though.

Having a main character, or any kind of main character really, who might appear he's got it all together in court but is actually freaking the fuck out on the inside CAN actually be interesting to play as; it all depends on how the writers handle the character.
