Re: App Advice for Size Capped Games?
(Anonymous) 2013-07-19 07:38 am (UTC)(link)First come, first serve sounds possible. You'll likely get a mix of players who just throw in an already written app without really thinking and drop later, players who write one up asap because they really like what the game has to offer, and something in-between.
For new openings, I prefer the idea of waiting for 5-10 open slots depending on how close together the drops are. Like... if you've only got two open slots spanning a month or two, then I'd just open season them.
What sort of genre is the game, btw?
Re: App Advice for Size Capped Games?
(Anonymous) 2013-07-20 01:51 am (UTC)(link)I haven't decided on the game concept yet! I have a lot of ideas, but I want to work out all the OOC mechanics then pick which idea looks like it'll fit best. Some of the more fleshed out ideas I have so far are:
* Characters are pulled into the world of Final Fantasy VIII 100 years after the game as they are unknowingly descendents of Hyne (equivalent of god in that universe though he's not a worshipped or particularly liked one) by a sorceress in an attempt to call him back to the world and political fighting starts taking place over the PCs with them having to choose which paths to take in the world. SeeD would want to cloister the PCs and work on sending them home, Esthar would want to study and learn from them, Timber (the new Galbadia/wannabe empire) would want to use them to call back Hyne and use his powers to take over the world, the sorceress who called in everyone and is "working" for Timber would want to call back Hyne to end the world and another sorceress working with SeeD would want to subtly help the PCs achieve whatever they wanted (so if they all wanted to band together and create a new world order or stage a corporate takeover of Galbadia Fried Chicken or whatever she'd be on their side).
* AU game centered around a military organization (mercenaries or government, I haven't really decided) who helps fight off invading aliens that harvest humans with the use of giant robots. Still thinking of all the reasons for this, but right now I have in mind something like Vandread (except without the male/female planets and space harem also SPOILERS I guess) where the aliens are actually the first race of humans of the original Earth harvesting colonist humans of an "Earth-2" to gain longer lives.
* Characters pulled out of their worlds/times to space/time/universe hop through various time periods in various worlds by something (god of time, Cthulhu, I haven't really given it much thought). They're chasing Vandal Savage (of DCAU 'verse since I haven't read the comics) and have to fix his changes to the time stream while trying to minimize their own effects on it. At first it would start off as being dumped in a time and having to fix an event he'd changed in his favor (like being dumped in the fall of the Roman Empire and having to stop or ensure an assassination), but Vandal would eventually start laying traps specifically for the PCs trying to off them and things would go from there. Which all sounds kind of like Exsilium I think, but since characters would actually be living in different time periods instead of visiting for a day or two and it'd be a smaller game allowing for more personal interaction between the PCs and the antagonist I think it's different enough it'd be OK (did not actually take this idea from Exsilium though as a disclaimer I got it off an episode of Generator Rex).
: I'm not really expecting any of these or the other vaguer ideas I have in mind to be super popular, just hoping to get enough players where the majority of interactions aren't PCs interacting with various NPCs I'm playing. I don't want to not have a plan if more people are interested than I think I can handle running a game for though.
