Hahaha!

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Passive subservient characters

(Anonymous) 2013-07-19 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
May anyone give some advice on how to play a very docile character whose actions mostly come from being dragged along by stronger personalities? It's like those perennial Number 2 characters (which I would also like to play! unfortunately no one plays the other half), but in this case #1 can be...pretty much anyone that happens to be around. What's the best way to plot and let other people know that there's a usable lackey/dishwasher/etc for grabs?

My biggest advice on this is while it's perfectly fine for your character to be the doormat, lackey, what have you, by all that's holy and un, don't be a passive PLAYER. Suggest plots. Suggest ways that your character can be used or manipulated. Be proactive in forming that relationship and CR.

Too many times I've seen players of these types of characters act exactly like the character when it comes to plotting. Nothing is a bigger turn-off for repeat CR with these character types than knowing you will always be the one doing all the work for a lazy player. Don't be that player, and make it crystal clear you're not from the outset. A lot of people have been burned.
