not only that, but everything the kanda player cited about same-sex relationships between men and boys being a normal and codified part of that era is true too. like it or not, it was a part of japan. you can't just erase that to make it "politically correct."

Only actually it was completely out of place for both the time period and the social class/occupation of the people involved. At basically no point in Japanese history was it common or accepted for working class fishermen to keep pretty young boys as sex slaves. The player was trying to justify the controversial and unnecessary backstory with "history" that wasn't even correct, and they got very pedantic about it. Responding that way to a fairly minor revision request is a huge red flag for a mod, and I think they made the right choice.
