Yer wonderful

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

for a game with a strangely vocal amount of whiteknights on wankgate; hardly anything positive (or not) is ever said in these threads

what gives?

Re: AMAT

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably because there aren't that many Amat players that actively post here and those that do, like myself, may not feel inclined to tell their friends that they're liked anonymously over and over. Most older players for instance have been mentioned here at some point this year. Just because it isn't repeated every other post doesn't mean that they're suddenly ignored or disliked. RPA is hardly the only venue out there either. A lot of people just stick to plurk for these things just to give an example.

So I wouldn't be too concerned just because the Amat threads here aren't all that active. It kinda comes and goes.

The whiteknights must follow the "if you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all" school of thought.

Re: AMAT

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
tbf most of the whiteknights just try to shut things down by telling people to take it to the mods or offending players rather than talking in circles at wg. which I can't really say is totally invalid since talking in circles at wg is the opposite of getting things done most of the time.

the problem with that is when the issue is WITH the mods-- blatant favoritism re: agf (I know, I read the mod post, I just think it's bs) and letting favorites slide on activity (why the hell is everett hitch still in this game?). complaining to the mods about the mods, in my years of experience at this game, leads to absolutely zero change. it's a waste of time. so coming here to vent at least gets me out of whatever temporary rage I have at whatever dumb thing the leaders of the game are doing this month (no more months long plots please). I get that it's not going to change anything, but tbh at this point I've given up on the mods ever changing.

And if Sabra makes new mod... oh sweet baby jesus.

but to sprinkle some niceness flowers throughout this, I will say that I love 99% of the players in this game, old and new. Everyone is totally chill and totally boss and a blast to play with. Maybe that's why they don't get individually called out on, everyone (with a few notable exceptions) is made of amazement.

im friends with sabra but if that thing makes it to a mod spot im out of this game like a shot

which is a shame because i like the game

also im the one who complained to the mods about the favoritism with favors and plots and such and... it doesnt seem to be leading to much of a change at all. you're right.

Let's put this to rest, shall we? I'm not applying for modship. I don't have the patience or professionalism to handle modship of any game, much less one as large as Amat. I'm on the helper team, but I'll never become a mod. You needn't worry about that.

Re: Favoritism, I'm leaving the final call with the mods, and open to whatever they decide on the issue of Chloe's favor. If you have specific suggestions, please take them to the mods, because when I last spoke to them about a formal ruling on the AGF, they'd only received one suggestion about that issue, which they posted up, and if they don't get more than that single suggestion, I am guessing that nothing more will happen. Their policy is not to make decisions based upon anon communities. They need your input in an official capacity.

Their policy is not to make decisions based upon anon communities.

the regular ones, historically, haven't worked either. Which may be why you see a large difference in the comments actually made on that post vs what's here. Sure, the mods will equally reply to everyone, they'll asspat if you have a complaint and promise to look into it going forward. But nothing will be done. Zero. If you bang your head against a wall a few times with no result, eventually you figure you're going to have to give up on it ever moving.

And this isn't even a shot at the current mods -- it's been with every mod in every game I've ever been in. People like things the way they like them, and they aren't going to change them if they don't like the change. People are naturally biased creatures. Mods are going to naturally favor their in-game friends and common RP partners. When called out on it, even if they say otherwise to your face, they will change absolutely zero about how they apply their bias because it requires going against their own nature. And who's gonna do all that work for an RP?

So that's why you don't see a lot of people bringing it to the mods anymore. The mods have proven that they aren't going to do dick about it. It's not our job to fix their personality flaws and issues, it's theirs to keep them out of the game. And frankly, avoiding the venue where you're getting critiques simply because it's a venue full of unnamed critiques is completely idiotic. The mods obviously know this is where their feedback is going, as is evidenced by the mod post earlier this month. Maybe instead of sending their lackeys out here every post to remind us that we're posting it to the wrong place they should stop to consider why that's happening in the first place.

tl;dr the mods ain't gonna change shit, so why waste our breath? at least here we can vent without being given false promises and other bs about how there's no such thing as mod bias and every mod shits perfectly balanced rainbows of equality.

I was really grossed out seeing Sabra called an 'it' then being referred to as a woman. Sabra is a guy, fyi, people. Pay attention and be a little more conscious of your words. Misgendering someone is never okay, I don't care how you spin it.

oops

(Anonymous) 2013-07-11 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
as the anon that was replied to, i actually didn't know sabra id'd as male. i'm actually not typically a misgendering asshole, so I apologize. If I could go up and edit I would. :(

Oh, no worries! Sorry I got so grouchy there. It just really makes me feel awful when that sort of thing happens. And maybe more than a bit grouchy.

thanks for saying this even though nobody will really care

(Anonymous) 2013-07-11 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
of course they won't. it puts a kink in their constant white-knighting and demands that people "take things to the mods." What's your recourse as a player when the mods don't give a shit about their biases?

1. drop
2. vent and move on

god forbid someone choose the second!!

I'm not friends with the mods and I got results on my issues with the game when I talked to them. Sorry your ass is devastated that you're not getting exactly what you want.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-11 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Because that's simply not true. I have had mostly positive results when approaching the current mod crew so far and I get the same sentiment from most of my friends in the game. The reason why a lot of people will tell you to actually take it to the higher ups or the players instead of screaming into the air is because it's working for most of us whereas you're largely just getting into a back and forth argument on an anonymous forum. And given the level of discourse you're providing, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if you didn't exactly act like a font of reason if you actually did try and resolve your issues through them at some point.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-16 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Modtip: The moderators are not obligated to doll out execution on suggestions to the letter of the people giving them. They act at their behest and little else when all is said and done.

That's the bottom line. Regardless of who is who's friend, or who is doing the venting/bitching, or "my case was seen to fruition to my satisfaction so these other people MUST NOT BE trying hard enough", the final say in all matters go to the persons leading the game.

Dissent with that fact is perfectly natural. Someone has to lose if there is a victor. You won. Someone else lost.

Someone has to lose if there is a victor.

But this isn't a competition. Their 'winning' has nothing to do with what happens to anyone else.

As a different anon, I came into the game not knowing any mods and had no problem e-mailing them about plot stuff, and haven't had an issue to this day. It sounds like the other anon had a similar experience.
Since I didn't know them or have any special connection to them, it's hard to figure why they would work with me (someone new and unknown to them) and have major issues working with other people.

And, not knowing any particular scenario where the mods have rejected player plots, it's natural in my position to wonder if anons are exaggerating, were rejected for a perfectly valid reason, or didn't even try to begin with. I have seen anons lie about posting things when you could go back and see that nothing was posted.
But we haven't been given any examples of when this has happened so we have nothing to go off of.
