The above grumbling was related to one of the strangest ways to get a character (a character who had previously been part of your team, to boot) to come back from the enemy that I've seen in this series. First, you had to talk to him with the team's resident kid-hero, Rolf (basically that game's Ricken only with a bow), then kill him, possibly with Ike specifically. There was no way to actually recruit him in the battle. I reset the damn game three times before just deciding to move on... and then my jaw dropped when he turned out to be not actually dead (a rarity in FE games) and ended up joining.
Also, accidentally killing Raven and thus losing Lucius in 7, PLUS not saving any of the guards so I couldn't go to the next side chapter and recruit Canas. ARGH.
