what fandom would they be in (play from), or who would they play (if there's a character they obsess about)?

bonus: writing/rping styles you think they'd have (prefers prose, action brackets, uses icons with borders, is a la snob, etc)

my dad would rp from ncis (gibbs, probably) and he'd use action brackets without making them small and he'd have like 3 icons but just default all the time

my mom would rp from friends and be a prose-churning machine

my mom would probably rp from all her kdramas that she watches religiously. all of her icons&prose would be super utilitarian. the good thing about it would be that she tagged lightning fast and could balance a million threads, all while keeping up on plurk (and getting into a lot of fights because she likes telling people off when they're being rude)

my dad would rp from dudebro shit, like. the only fandom i could think of that he'd like that could even fit in dwrp is warcraft? he'd be a prose guy but with a lot of comedic/goofy elements in his writing-- he'd be great at serious scenes when the time came for it, but most of the plots he'd do would probably be pretty light-hearted and silly

he's also the only one i'd tag. sorry mom, but i just dont think we'd mesh well as rpers :(

oh my god okay let's do this.

my stepdad would rp from retro nostalgia trip cartoons and bandom. maybe star trek. he'd be too cheap for a paid but would craft 15 perfect icons. ('perfect' meaning ones he attributes DEEP MEANING TO but are probably cropped in ms paint and super ugly.) he'd write prose with proper grammar.

my mom would probably rp from MCU or trek. TOS or reboot. crappy grammar, questionable html, eye-searing outdated icons.

my biological dad would make some grimdark, godmod OC who he'd take way too seriously and load it up with awesome icon artwork and so much purple prose...

TIL i would probably not like rping with my parents.

dad: ocs and semi-obscure novels, maybe ye olde sci-fi. he'd action bracket for sure, and have efficient but slightly bland writing. killer plots, though. wouldn't be big on icons and would only tag characters from canons he likes. i see him eventually making a game.

mom: characters from movies, mostly comedies and kids' stuff. would do a lot of goofy silly threads, probably a memer instead of a gamer. would also make gorgeous icons if she didn't draw the fanart herself, and probably have 250 of them.

stepmom: all the star trek. all of it. she'd be a prose tagger with rambly language but a good sport and willing to bend characterization a bit to make plots go. small games only, or maybe musebox-exclusive. prefers limited to no ooc contact.

both mom and dad would have a high chance of wankery.

Dad would pick all his favorite sci fi and alternate history fiction stuff. Obscure sci fi galore. Maybe some Star Trek. Hed be alright but he doesnt like introspection on characters so much as playing with ideas and concepts and would end up in memes a lot more than any games.

Mom would try to play some strong woman from shows like White Collar, NCIS or the like. And fail because her OOC/IC lines would blur so bad and I know it would happen.

idefk what from what canon but my mom would be that insecure whiny tittybaby that can't take crit and highlanders to hell and back. possibly talks behind other rpers back in the guise of constructive criticism. there will be long proses and introspection. it'll probably take her a long time to tag because she needs perfection like air. will flourish in plot based prose games

my dad would probably play la, fast tagger, ecats level of comment spam, plays something from an old book maybe, like stephen king or robert cook or whatever. possibly sherlock. or something like shrek... idek. icons will remain questionable, as is the writing quality. will work well in sws or bakerstreet.

fuck mom would likely play from some telenovela with the whole convoluted plot, or pick some conservative character somewhere. will likely look down on smut, but be boss at making intricate plot plans and following them through

My mom would RP characters from K-dramas, Princess Peach, Yoshi, and Totoro. Her userpics would be a mix of poor and good quality because of the material she's working with. I think she would use asterisks ** and she would have a lot of spelling and grammar errors because ESL. She wouldn't last long on DWRP. She's a Korean mom and deals with enough drama at church and doesn't need more shit from the internet.

My dad would RP from the various Star Trek series. Star Wars and old 70s/80s shows and westerns too, I think. I think he would be interested in picking up a GoT character around now. He would only have one icon and use the same one for everything. He would write in prose and be oblivious to anon comms. He'd be flaky because of IRL obligations and he'd eventually drop out of RP to write Star Trek fic.

hahahahaha oh fuck we actually talked about this when they caught me rping once.

my mom would rp def from those soap opera or drama shows like desperate housewives or the good wife or army wives. she would be one of those prose only people and be really anal over icons and layout and visuals and be mistaken for those mistaken people. would grudgingly do comment spam if that was what everyone was doing. i think she would, sadly, one of those 'backseat mods' with how shell keep suggesting this and that and this and that.

my dad would rp from law shows like l&a as jack mccoy or the practice as bobby donnell or boston legal as jeffery coho/alan shore/denny crane. (mostly denny crane tho.) he wouldnt really give a shit about graphics. his icons probably will all come from lj with those superfiltered border ones with text but hes a fun guy. def be active since he works from the computer at home and is easy going and friendly. would lean more to action spam but jumps into prose too if he can.

i know for a fact my uncle rps here in dwrp as a fluttershy somewhere.

of course im going to tag my dad and uncle. i kind of feel like my mom would be namedropped a lot since shes abrasive and lbr thats not really liked here.

my mom would definitely play from either star trek or the vampire chronicles, she used to read tons of fanfic for both of those and went to conventions and everything

she would be all about the slash for sure, probably smutting it up 100% of the time on memes and psls with no attention span for games and plotting

her icons would be hideous because she has no taste or sense of visual style and her prose would be flowery purple prose no doubt

she'd probably be really wanky ooc too, she always gets in internet fights on facebook and shit

it's hard to picture my dad going anywhere near this shit but he'd probably play travis bickle from taxi driver or some similar 70s badass and he'd write really straightforward succinct action tags and idle out of games after a day if you could even get him to finish an app and he'd probably only have one icon because who gives a shit

my mom would probably rp from some live action show she's invested in. law & order, ncis, highlander, or game of thrones. honorable characters with deep backgrounds, the less modern the setting the better. she'd primarily play female characters and smut it up a lot, probably sticking to memes and dressing rooms. prose forever. pages and pages of prose.

she'd buy a paid to get more icons but there'd be no set theme beyond having the character in them, and somebody would inevitably bitch about the style and quality of them.

My mom would rp from a sci-fi show, like Star Trek or Stargate. Failing that, she'd rp from some dumb ABC Family show. She'd be a good rper and pretty reliable/speedy on her tags, but her posts would have syntax and grammer errors out the whoa. She'd spam plurk with dumb cat videos.

My dad would be the world's slowest tagger, as he hates looking at the computer in his free time, so I imagine that he'd only play one character at one game and maybe sneak out a tag or two during work. He actually made D&D sheets based off of LOTR characters when he was younger, so he'd probably do someone from a fantasy novel like Dresden Files or LOTR. I can't imagine him lasting long at rp, and probably would only do it cause mom talked him into it.

My dad would RP as James Bond or McClane or basically any other badass action hero and would self insert to death but really be OOC and get into massive wank fights with the mods if they don't allow him his way.

My mom would RP from Little House on the Prairie or some Lifetime movie as some FIERCE INDEPENDENT WOMAN and get into a slice of life game where she could fulfill her happy fantasy and everyone would get along with her despite the fact that she would constantly complain about trivial things going on IRL with her.

also he'd do lots of fanart

my mom would be a serial apper/dropper who gets into a new show every other month. she'd be really into flamewars about characterization, she'd use her real name as her handle, and she'd be a big shipper. also, she'd almost certainly be one of those people who posts logged in on wankgate. ...a lot.

i am forever glad my mother is not into rp.

My mom would be the worst flake in dwrp, I swear to fucking god. She'd probably have one home game (probably in ECATS), but she'd find a new one once a month, app to it and idle out of one after another.

She'd play somebody from a crime procedural - actually, scratch that, she'd probably play Axel Foley or Martin Riggs. She can quote all of Beverly Hills Cop and Lethal Weapon, might as well get some use out of it. She'd probably track down like fifty icons for each of them as well.

My dad would be a career troll. He'd probably have like three identities, a serious one where he'd play in a horror game with soldier types (with like three icons while only using the default, yep), and then three others where he just goes around fucking with people and getting banned from a bunch of games.

my mom would be the definition of shiny syndrome, like, supernatural, hansel and gretel, star trek, jack the giant killer, sherlock, doctor who, you name any of these series with awful fanbases with the attention span of a gnat and by god she'd rp from it

for like a week or two

then lose interest and move onto something else

despite this ooc'ly she'd be nice and well meaning and try to be friends with people she'd just get on people's nerves in rp for never following through with stuff

i think eventually she'd start to commit more or drop games and just PSL eventually as not to step on anymore toes after a while

my dad would probably play cowboys from western movies or bank robbers from movies like the italian job

basically shows that lack fantasy elements in their entirety and i think he'd even look down on people who did rp from those kinds of things

he'd be really strict and drop people who don't seem to commit to threading with him but at the same time he'd tag back regularly with good quality tags

i wouldn't rp with either of them

this thread is adorable and i love all of the answers. ugh you guys.

my dad would absolutely play someone deep, thoughtful, and intense, though i can't predict the genre. he's too eclectic. but his tags would be pretty bad because so is his writing. he'd find some underground circle of people exactly like him and never tag around outside of that.

my mom would play someone from some realistic show about, like, running, or something really mundane like that, and she would absolutely play ladies only. then she'd get them into all sorts of saucy romances, and play out all of the porn. i've found her writing self-insert fic of her and her bf before, so this is a step further than an educated guess.

my mom would never roleplay tbh but if she did, she'd play from grey's anatomy or house or something. she would have pretty icons but wouldn't make the action brackets small. i don't think she's ever written in her life so she'd be terrible at it.

my dad, however, would throw himself into the rp scene. he'd be a good writer, using small text and trendy icons and layouts. he'd probably have a gang of buttpatters, too. he'd play from star trek, probably.

My mom would rp from Artemis Fowl, Star Trek (TOS and Voy), Percy Jackson, NCIS.

A mix of prose-heavy and ecats style tags. And shipping everything but no smut.

My dad wouldn't rp because he'd try to rp Spock and ragequit at the shippers.

My mom would probably play almost exclusively from video games with the exception of a vampire OC, mainly Dreamcast games (probably Ulala from Space Channel 5), Resident Evil women, and characters from racing games, GTA, and Sleeping Dogs, and prefer curt unbracketed present-tense prose and being CR-driven. She would never appear in OOC comms except to have her characters RSVP for events but leave little OOC notes in her tags, small and in single parentheses.

My dad would play mostly live-action characters in past-tense prose and bracketed action spam and be intent on being plotty and wrangling other characters into events for the sake of having events between actual game plot ones.

my mom would probably rp from whatever show she's currently watching. surprisingly, she sticks to them for a really long time, so i can see her rping characters from telenovelas (o clone, el cuerpo del deseo), and vampire diaries (she really...likes it haha)? she would have pretty icons, but she would ask me to credit them for her because what is formatting how do you do that. she would use the default layout and, i guess???, she would have weird english grammar and spelling errors since she's ESL, but she would also ask me to proofread them if it's important. oocly, i think she would be very approachable, but with a few close friends she would definitely gossip (thankfully enough, she doesn't spread rumors about anybody, she just likes to know what's going on with who)... she'd love to give advice, too.

icly, i see her as being very serious and, at some points, self-inserty. she'd def. prefer prose over action brackets. she wouldn't do smut threads unless they're ftb, but she would avidly read other people's smut; and she wouldn't do threads that contain too much violence for her liking.

AS FOR MY DAD, wow, he'd be a pretty great writer in prose and action brackets, but he'd be kind of a flake if he wasn't all that serious about a game. he'd respond arbitrarily, i guess, and would sometimes take a little long to reply. he'd probably play OC's, but he would play characters from obscure latin-american literature novels. he'd also have good icons... would probably insist on making them himself, too. he'd probably have some grammar & spelling issues too, like my mom.

and yeah, he'd also use a default layout.

oocly, he'd be pretty fun and funny, but he'd call you out if you're being a little shit.

Dad would probably rp from nicktoons or something; I know for a fact that Cosmo and Squidward would be two assured characters. He'd be pretty damn cool on the surface if a little prone to text talk, but the second things stop going the way he wants them to he'd blow the fuck up. Probably abrasive and the least PA person in the world. Likely a slow tagger due to work.

Stepdad would rp from darker things, like MK or GTA. Probably a little faster at tagging and a bit of a longer fuse, but he'd be more prone to PA stunts.

my mom would roleplay from downton abbey and be in a prose game but not really be interested in depth, just interested in furthering the plot
mom's icons would also be pretty off color because she has a bad time recognizing when things are in focus/when they look good

dad's gotta do the opposite and be really into putting feelings and emotions into every tag and a whole lot of thought but he would probably play historical drama characters like the film version of lincoln or some john grisham character, but never with many icons because he hates taking patience to do that stuff
