Re: SHOW VS BOOKS

Show. I enjoy the hell out of the books (up til the fourth and fifth, which really frustrated me), but the show is much more coherent, and honestly, much more creatively done. Martin's writing isn't bad by a long shot, but I think his storyline works best in a visual medium - I feel like I'm getting all the good parts and the relevant plot without having to wait hundreds of pages for it. Yeah, that means changing a few characters and a few middling-large plot points, but I feel like I'm following the show's story much better than I ever did the books'. (This has less to do with my reading comprehension, I think, than GRRM's tendency to put REALLY IMPORTANT EVENTS entirely offscreen and pull shit like the one-timeline-two-books ridiculousness with the fourth and fifth books.)

This season has been my favorite - partly because it feels like all of the major players are getting more fleshed out (the Tyrells in particular are 90% of the reason for my excitement every new episode), and partly because I'm finally getting to see world-shaking events happen and not just hearing about them through other characters. There's a reason I was still excited for the Red Wedding, despite having read the books, and that's because I finally got to see it happen.

...also, Margaery Tyrell is just a better character in the show, and it's so wonderful

The show has its flaws, yeah, and I'm never going to hate the books. Just, between the two, I'm way more excited about the next season of the show right now than I am about the next book. :\

Wow. See I dread seeing the Tyrells on screen because I think they are being treated so poorly.

it's nice to see Margaery's character also not happening offscreen, tbh - I find her compelling and funny and interesting and politically relevant in a way the books didn't give her time to be

YMMV ofc, but that's what I personally like about her, and about the rest of the Tyrells

As someone who hasn't read the books? I LOVE the Tyrells, they're my favorite thing. So the show is doing something right there, at least.

I can totally understand that, too. And I don't begrudge people for enjoying them at all.

+1

the story feels more suited for cinema/visuals imo
