Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: FRINGE AU GAME

I don't know anything about Fringe apart from what I read on Wikipedia just now (and I'm generally wary of games that are based on specific canons unless they're explained very well for the canonblind) but I love the idea of crackpot science and secret organizations. I think it would be a neat setting, and you could have a lot of fun with the science-y stuff. Keep in mind that players tend to strongly dislike power nerfing, but allowing for science-based powers could be fun.

It sounds like alternate realities would fit the theme of the series and provide a convenient way for people to jamjar in their characters, but if you're worried about people not taking advantage of the AU then there are various ways you could limit the number of non-AU characters (like having different app cycles).

It wouldn't be a straight-from-the-screen AU, if that's your worry! The generic brand thing was definitely true, and the inspiration I'll be pulling is more along the lines of setting than the stream of events. I really love the idea of Pseudo Science: The Game and making it an AU could give things structure enough for it not to turn into another jamjar where characters check the boxes and get a power.

AU would give people the option to make their character the brilliant scientist they never were or the suddenly telepathic victim of a crazy mastermind. Or spies, or federal officers, or whatever. I don't want to promise a set plot, but I do have a general line of events in mind to at least get the game started and moving, with a couple possibly larger events after that if things run smoothly. Smaller plots would be peppered between, monster-of-the-week style, and players would be encouraged to come up with their own science project disasters.

But I worry the AU will be an issue for gaining a playerbase, and tbh none of my current RP friends seem like they'd be interested in a game like that. I just can't see this kind of setting working for a jamjar. Maybe with a cast of nothing but evil scientists to keep everyone on their toes.
