rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. He is not the same Kirk as Shatner's. That Kirk was raised by his parents, and had to earn the respect of his peers and his promotion through time and experience.

This Kirk is a cocky son of a bitch. He is willing to bend the rules over and fuck them. He isn't an experienced commander who understands a grim situation, because by his own reckoning there's no situation he can't slip out of. There's no such thing as a no win scenario. He ends up Captain of the Enterprise promoted straight out of the academy, and lacks the long years of experience Shatner's Kirk had before ever sitting in the command chair.

They are not the same people, and 2009 Kirk's approach to a problem is not likely to be the same either, no matter how romanticized your view of their similarities. Where Pine's is take on the world, Shatner's does exercise caution now and again. One had no ambition in his life before one was suggested to him, the other has no ambition to be promoted off a ship.

So while I'm not saying ignore TOS canon altogether, I do actually think that a Pine Kirk should be palpably different in play as possible, especially if you play him as a game. Avoid TOSsing in gimicks and reacting to them as Shatner's Kirk might, play Pine's.

But mostly just do it better than any man has done it before.
