i... genuinely don't understand how people can rp from this. isn't the widely-accepted theory that the entire game is just a sort of metaphor for how hugo views his father, and the world he's imagined for him?

considering that they don't mention anything in the game itself, that also means you don't have to mention anything in rp games either

pretty simple

Hey people play from Portal.

And...? For some fandoms, people are are used to having to hammer out fanon and headcanons due to insufficient canon. People manage to play silent protagonists in games, like Red from pokemon or Ness from Mother 3, despite those characters having no real canon personality beyond a few lines that NPCs tell-don't-show about them offhand. Hell, Vocaloid has no set-in-stone canon whatsoever, being a fandom community that built up around the mascot characters for digital music soundbanks, and yet you see people apping vocaloids into games every once in a while, often with a pretty consistent premise as to what their characters' (fanon) backstories and (fanon) personalities are.

Now, granted, a lot of people don't like people who play characters like that, and I can kind of understand why. But it shows that lack of canon dosn't make RPing something like OFF completely impossible, it just makes it different. It's kind of halfway between rping from a more traditional canon and rping an OC, with a mix of the pros/cons of both.

That's the thing. It's still just a theory and nothing like that has to touch a game at all.

They still talk and have personalities. They have a distinctive voice. An application might be hard, but it can be done. Just justify yourself a bit and pull off from the pieces Mortis Ghost has confirmed on his DA page (ie. The Judge and Zacharie being good friends) if you need to get more specific.

Just because it might be difficult for some people to write things like that doesn't mean it's the same for others. It's all fun.
