Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Modern AUs have always struck me as being the lazy way for people who are unfamiliar with the setting of a particular canon (Les Mis, Sherlock Holmes, etc) to play out a watered down version of the characters. I can understand the appeal, but most people are more interested in modernizing the character so they don't get side-eyed for historical inaccuracies than to play with how the character would change.

I wouldn't piss on anybody elses parade, but I'm not really a fan and don't go out of my way to tag these kinds of characters.

i agree, but in those cases, im glad they dont persist with their shitty mediocrity because if theyre willing to avoid reading and research to the extent of bending their characters and sucking out half of their contextual interest, research probably wouldnt help them.

what i cant understand more then that are the tolkien/hobbit modern AUs. modernizing high fantasy characters in general sucks out so much of what makes those characters interesting i just dont understand why you'd ever bother.
