Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. What are things someone who's looking to join this game should know? I've been interested for a while, but between how everything is locked and its wanky history, I'm a little apprehensive about just diving in... Is it anything like it was a few years back? And how is the pace, is there any medium divide, etc?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-10 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing like it used to be
A few characters have gone wildly ooc because of "development"
Anons are a bit cliquey at times
Mods are slow at some things but fast where their own interests are concerned
Any criticisms of the game are bogged down in "-1" subject lines and "take it to the mods" comments, despite the above fact. Like I said, it's cliquey.
Certain muns are so welcoming but some aren't.
There isn't much of a medium divide which is nice.

Still fun in spite of those things. That's not to say I hate the game (why would I play in it if I did?) but just thought you should be aware of those issues since you asked.

How can you tell when anons are cliquey?

You don't play in the game, so how would you even know? That makes no sense that you give advice based on something you haven't experienced.

Oh yeah, and to the OP, our anons have an infamous inability to actually read what people say to them. Try not to take them too seriously.

It is not nearly as wanky as it was a few years back and the pacing is probably a medium to slow paced game when there isn't a plot, and can get extremely fast when there is one. It's been a lot more active and fast paced in the past two months because of the ongoing world plot and people actually having some solid things to do that aren't just your typical sex curse or slice-of-life activity. That might die down again once it goes back to the regularly scheduled curses, but I don't know what the mods are planning after May and how it might affect the pacing of the game.

The medium divide is technically non-existent. You will see some anime characters who only get anime character responses or live action only getting live action, but I've never seen any players from either medium refuse CR from someone from the opposite side. I've got both anime and live action characters in my roster and I have a huge amount of CR throughout the mediums. If you work for the CR, you get it in the long run, regardless of what canon your character is from. Which is really nice.

If you're applying a small canon character, it's gonna be harder to get CR. I've played so many characters from so many different canons and the ones that no one knew about rarely got as much interaction as the ones people had at least heard about in passing because the canon wasn't so obscure. If you are really willing to work for CR, it's still possible though, it's just not going to get handed to you like a lot of people for some reason expect. It's also probably going to take longer for you to get into the game because the app team actually does like to look up information on characters before reviewing their apps. The more obscure your canon, the longer that will take, and so you may wait a few days to a week before you get a review on your application.

READ THE APPLICATION GUIDELINES. If you've never applied to this game, it can be a bitch to get in to, but if you follow the guidelines to a T you're almost guaranteed an accept. Just be as detailed as possible because the application team can be real fucking nitpicky compared to most games.

But mostly just don't be afraid to reach out. Most of the players in this game are super friendly and I've never had any problems making friends or getting strong bonds between characters. Crossover pairings are a lot more common in this game I've found than in most others I've been in and brotps are easily formed. If you find a solid group of people you get along with, it's really easy to fall in love with this game and stick around for a long time.

I want to +.05 the obscure canon interaction thing. This will out me but that's alright; I play from probably one of the most obscure canons for anyone of this generation because the canon reached the height of it's popularity in the 70s. The character I play gets tons of CR because she's social, interactive, and offers something to the island populace for them to get involved. (And I made sure my app was extremely thorough, even going so far as to type out a transcript for an episode the character was in - so when people want to know the character a bit more, I link them to this info).

This is the thing about any character really, but especially the obscure ones: If your character has nothing to offer other than "oh where am I" or "oh my collar is tight help" you are not going to have a satisfying experience in Amat (imo).

If this is your first time in Amat, I highly recommend apping a character who is social and will interact with the populace, obscure canon or no, this will help create a more satisfying game experience.

And definitely +1ing the "reach out" thing. Anyone who is shy on the OOC front is going to miss out on a lot of plotting. Dive in and GET YOU SOME! This is my home game for a reason, the people here are fantastic, but you can't expect it to fall on your doorstep. You've gotta make the effort!

GOOD SMUT WRITERS?

Depends on what you're looking for. These recs are not based on tagging speed, they all have a variety of speed from extremely fast to extremely slow, so you might want to PM the muns if you're looking to scene to find out their speeds.

I've played with these muns and these are the characters I remember they play off the top of my head, they might play so sorry if I don't remember. I'm recommending them based on a writing style that isn't too introspective, much more action-based, and don't tend to just lie back and moan. These are muns who know how to keep a scene moving and don't leave tags in my inbox in which I say to myself "uhhhh ok, what am I supposed to do with that?"

Tyler/Finnick/Jesse/Juliet
Boyd/Bashir/Megan
Kenzi/Maggie/Rose
Sheena
Bo/Lanie/Carolyn/Claudia/Adria
Raylan/Kaylee
Mary/Ava
Angela/Summer
Leckie/Rodney
Vala/Kate Beckett
Dax/Kurai/Cersei
Winona/Brooke

Sorry I don't have more anime/game medium recs at this time, anon, I'm working on those. Anybody have some of those that they could recommend?

For anime ones, I know that Chloe/Shayla Shayla/Rei Ayanami/Whoever the fuck else Sabra plays all write excellent smut that gives you plenty to react to.

Naoto whateverhernameis from Persona is also really good.

Lightning Farron/Rinoa, Rikku can be pretty good, Ling/Haruhi though I find that the mun is better with action based with Ling, Takashi Morinozuka

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head for anime/game.
