Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

In RP, how do you guys feel about making the characters skilled in a lot of things?

For example, I've seen some MU that allude to being able to do things from all of the classes they're able to promote to. Not only can they use magic and swords, they can also ride horses, pegasus, shoot an arrow, use a spear, axe, etc.

I know it's a part of the game play but some times it comes off as too much.

That's exactly why I could never RP MU. I like their story, but god, would they be a bitch to play as.

Yeah, I think that's way too much. If it came down to it, I'd stick to the base class and leave it at that. Probably limiting to some people, but I feel like after a while it becomes ridiculous to stack a bunch of promotions together.

I don't care if the character min-maxes on their five skills but if they start to allude that they can do everything they've classed to, I'd say no. I'd stick to what weapons they'd use in the class they're currently in.

Besides, the game often lampshades its own mechanics at times so it may as well be pretty canon that Character A could use bows in another class but right now, it fumbles in his hands when he picks one up because he's a friggen swordmaster.

+1

more or less what i came to say

Rather than them being automatically skilled I would make a MU just have potential for it, which isn't that crazy. Anyone who picks up a bow for the first time is going to fumble and fail but if forced to use it every day of the week and every hour they are bound to end getting better. So my MU technically can do all those things, but their main class is their natural talent and their usual job so that's what stays as absolute truth.
