Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

SUBQUEST
(Anonymous) 2013-04-28 04:32 am (UTC)(link)Imagine if you will, a canon, any canon, where at the beginning of the plot the main character cannot fulfill the role as main character due to extraordinary and unexpected circumstances. Maybe the MC was never born. Maybe the MC was killed in the backstory, or when the bad guys attacked the hometown. Maybe the MC joined the bad guys for whatever reason. Maybe the MC just didn't bother showing up at the "right" place at the "right" time.
What is a poor, doomed canon to do?
Fortunately, the Substitute Questers has their backs. If your canon suddenly lacks its MC, they'll send over someone who can do the MC's job. This someone is of course a character from another canon, who has acquired experience, skills, supplies and equipment both mundane and magical, and of course flashy moves. The Questers set a Goal for the character and once that Goal is accomplised, the Quester is sent back to the Fold In Space where he or she can relax, train, heal, etc. before the next Substitute Quest happens. The Quester, of course, keeps the things s/he has gotten from being the substitute MC, and has full access to the specific timeline/AU of the canon s/he Quested for.
So what makes this more than just a collection of glorified fanfics?
The Questers are never truly alone, see. Other Questers, whether on a Quest, a finished AU, or are at the Fold In Space, can see and hear what the Quester is doing at any given moment and vice versa. They can talk to each other and exchange tips and stories. They can show each other their moves. And if they really mesh together, more than one Quester can go on the same Quest, replacing more than one main character.
It's not a Game Master sitting at a table by himself running his PC through an official campaign. It's many Game Masters sitting at the same table, running their PCs through official campaigns, and their PCs can IC see what the other PCs are doing and talk to each other.
Oh, and the canons characters Quest for will not make any special allowances. Questers enter the canons as they are, meaning that your human will enter Equestria as a human, will not make waves in the Mushroom Kingdom, Middle-Earth will treat the Quester as a complete and (most likely) weird stranger, etc. This of course may change depending on what the Quester does.
