Why don't you marry an ice cream sandwich

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

general oc advice

So I've apped an oc but their voice feels really bland and normal. Any advice for keeping a voice unique?

Think about their origins, anon! Where are they from, a city or more rural area? Are they low, middle, or upper class? Who are their parents and where are their families from? When I'm not sure of how to write a character's voice, I take into account their upbringing and environment because they do have an effect on speech patterns! And what may be normal to them may not be normal to someone else.

This way you can decide if they speak more formally or casually, have verbal tics, or maybe even know snippets of another language. There's also personality to consider. A more excitable character could have sentences that tend to run on, whereas a reserved character could be more concise. You can also consider what stimulates your character and how that affects how they talk about themselves; like saying "I feel" or "I think".

I hope this helps!
