Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Margaery Tyrell | ASOIAF/GOT

This kind of got caught at the end of the last post, so I'll copy/paste:

I liked her in the books, but after watching the S3 premiere, I've found myself more and more interested in her as a character. I still need to reread the books, and probably would play her from book canon instead of the TV show.

I've done a little thinking about her but not much yet. I think the basics are that she's both smart, as an educated highborn lady, and obviously clever. I'd also like to think that she does have the land's "best interests," at heart - her motivation behind her charity is at least partly genuine - but she knows how to play the game very well, and that means being able to deceive, manipulate, and win others' favor.

I don't know if I can play her for two reasons: I'm not smart enough myself, and also the usual concerns about speech patterns.

I think you're basically going to need to decide whether you want to play from the book or the show, on two counts: the speech patters are slightly different, and there are characterization differences (the show seems to be hinting significantly more at Margaery's manipulative / power-hungry streak, where the books, while showing her as no stranger to the game, portrayed her more as an agent of the Tyrells than an active pursuer for the crown).

Usually I'm all for playing from the book, because you tend to get more information on the character from that material, but I think Margaery is one of the rarer cases where you're likelier to find more scenes and more development awarded to her in the show.

Either way, make up your mind on which version you'd like to play, and start from there.
