set timeline-wise pre-braska, characters would wake up with extremely vague memories of their canon and be informed that they are in spira, have always lived in spira (and have plenty of evidence to suggest they used to have normal lives in spira), and that a close brush with sin's toxin is mucking up their memory and giving them retrograde amnesia; basically, that they're hallucinating their canon memories, and should take it easy until their real memories return. characters would be humanized and their powersets ffx-ized (final fantasy magic and skills, basically).
the game would be primarily slice of life within the ffx setting (become a blitzball star! travel spira! loot ruins! fight monsters! join yevon!), but with an ongoing plot for interested characters to pursue - there'd be hints scattered around that maybe what everyone is experiencing isn't just funky fake memories, as well as yevon and other parties interfering/covering up/etc things from the pcs. considering it would be almost entirely player motivated, i'm gonna go ahead and assume it'd be slow moving.
not sure how to approach the idea of pcs becoming summoners, though. on the one hand, it'd be a neat concept for pcs to get so wrapped up in spira that they were ready to die protecting it; on the other, every pc and their mother becoming a summoner to be speshul is really unfeasible, and the the summoner and sacrificed guardian could never be reapped (since one dies for sure and the other becomes the new sin, and since death is such a big theme in the game, i'm really leaning on it being more than a slap on the wrist). my explanations on why the pcs have memories from canon but lives in spira is admittedly a little shaky too.
anyway, thoughts? i've always really loved ffx's lush setting in particular, and since it would be more "you're in spira and nobody believes you about your crazy home world and you have no evidence to prove anythinhg, deal with it" than generic "you woke up in a strange city exactly the same but with [random new setting detail]", i think it'd be a breath of fresh air when it comes to new games.
ffx slice of life semi-au?
