Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Helloooo!! ♥

I used to play from the older Fire Emblems, but my voices for them pretty much died after Awakening, haha. . . But! Aside from this girl, I have an account for Chrom over at [personal profile] ylissean! Other characters I've considered playing though, are Owain, Lucina, Gaius, Cherche, and Henry.

( seriously why is everyone in the game so great )

if you link me to a meme thread and i'll tag with you until i go to bed and do my best keep tagging afterwards. LINK ME NOW.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-28 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
yes but not that much because i don't tag smut or ship memes unless it's with people i already know

idk like 15 or 14 but i would expect those characters to be pretty immature and inexperienced

Yeah, I'll definitely admit the timing wasn't terribly good. I'd been sitting on the plot for several months by that point and was getting a little itchy to just up and get it over with. I put the OOC post up when I did not because I wanted to immediately start it, which I said on the post right at the beginning, but so people would know it was coming and maybe plot or ask questions if they wanted to (and, partially, so people would know about it and there wouldn't be other plots happening at the exact same time. Which obviously didn't work well).

It still got blindsided by the second wave of the Sollux-and-Horroterrors plot anyway, something I didn't know was coming because I assumed with the end of the powerswap the event was over and there wouldn't be anymore huge bursts of plot related to it for a little while. It definitely isn't Quix's fault either, but the bad timing was mostly accidental because I didn't know it was going to be a bad time. The consort plot also did start before the second wave of the Horrorterror plot, so I seriously had no way of knowing.

This is me with my old call center job.

I'm in a different department of the same company, every time I walk past the call center section I give a little prayer of thanks that I'm not stuck in that soul-sucking hell anymore.

Understood! They were more placeholders anyway - but even so, I suppose I'm used to playing at relatively lax-paced games, so feedback here is especially helpful. Where would everyone suggest tweaking starting from somewhere along these lines?

Black to Purple - 3 threads
Purple to Blue - 4 threads
Blue to Green - 6 threads
Green to Yellow - 8 threads
Yellow to Orange - 10 threads
Orange to Pink/Red - 12 threads

nope, because I'm the one doing it, with my youngest being 15.

my limit's probably 14, but it really depends on the character.

When I tag out with my younger characters, I tend to stick to others in their age bracket. While people put gender prefs, they rarely put age preferences! We've had a discussion about this before where some said they wouldn't mind younger characters tagging their older ones, but that they also wouldn't state it outright on a meme.

A spine is one thing, an iron fist is another.

Speaking as someone who's RPed in various media since the nineties, running an RP of any kind calls for a balance -- enough structure for there to be logical answers to questions and reasons behind those answers and someone in charge who has the spine to state them, but not so controlling and inflexible that people run into ruts and lose their imaginations, the freedom to exercise them, or both. Frankly, when I read this thread I get the sinking feeling that the balance in DWRP in general is going to slip into the latter problem over the longer term, which is troubling when our community already has a creativity problem.

There's also the sense I get of severe superiority complexes in this thread -- ones that are frankly unwarranted given that mods are the ones responsible for all the samey games around. Yes, you can't be everyone's friend as a DWRP mod due to the scale, but neither should you get the idea that the peasants should bow to your greatness and thank you for every crack of the whip; respect for your players, however grudging, should be a given. Hobbies are supposed to be satisfying, and being treated like toilet paper is not satisfying -- in fact, it's probably exactly the treatment many players are experiencing at work or school that they're hoping to unwind from, or that they're hiding in their basements to avoid.

It particularly troubles me that many of the mod replies to the OP display a lack of understanding of the difference between people agreeing with you and people fearing or trying to placate you, and honestly believe that players want to be bossed around and denied the opportunity to think. That runs entirely contrary to the values that built modern society and that said society is starting to fray without.

you're doing a whole lot of assuming that dwrp is filled with rational, sensible adults and isn't filled with whiny entitled fucks. everyone in this hobby is so obsessed with their PRECIOUS BABY and is under the impression that any change is inherently bad and will shake and cry and throw a fit and fight you every step of the way if you propose said change.

you sound like you're blaming mods for lack of creativity, but players are to blame for this, too. instead of rolling with changes and making them work to their advantage, players go WHAT A SLAP IN THE FACE and throw fucking tantrums on plurk about how THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS. and if you give into that mindset and you cater to the hysteria every single fucking time it happens, nothing ever gets done. ever. EVER.

AU dressing rooms don't have a great track record of working out, unfortunately. I love AUs, and I love DRs, but they kind of cancel each other out when it comes to play style....a DR's biggest strength is that you can just drop a character in and start playing whenever you feel like it, while an AU requires that extra thoughtwork beforehand. The setting's intriguing and we do need more AU games, but I just don't think this combination of formats would have much of a future.

I'm going to Sakura-con. I've gone since 1998 back when it was called Baka-con. If you need someone to hang out with I'd be more then happy to have you tag along. This year I'm cosplaying as Eevee from Pokemon and running a Manga and Anime Swap Meet. My favorite things to do at the convention are the Whose line is it anyways panels and Zapp Brannigan ones (hes so hilarious, you have to go at least once. You will never laugh as much as you have at his Loveline panel which involves asking Zapp and his friends (Vegeta, Link, and that guy from Tangled whose name is escaping me right now.) getting asked advice on dating and sex. If you are interested, let me know and I'll make a sock and post here.

That's not how I read that thread at all. And that last sentence also had no place in RP can we not turn this into some sort of RP as a microcosm of RL issue.

A lot of people come to dwrp to unwind like you said. When people unwind many become extremely "me" focused and lose whatever manners they do have while on the clock. It's a two way street. Yes some mods are dicks and treat their playerbase like shit. But there's plenty of players and even entire playerbases that are just as asinine and treat their mods just as bad.

How you mod a game depends entirely on your playerbase. Some games have active, courteous and creative playerbases that can run with little mod involvement. Some games have raging dickfaces composing 2/3rds of the group who will take any excuse to act poorly and make the game a bad experience for everyone. Nobody is saying rule with an iron fist. They're saying if you end up with the latter draw your lines and don't let players run the game for you.

Also if you hadn't noticed were people in that thread said they won't be modding again because of having to deal with bad players. There's no "bad direction" dwrp is heading in. If anything we have even less people willing to mod than we did a couple years back because if you're not a perfect mod you get tons of shit heaped on you.

Finally why are you replying to this over here and not to the actual thread?

Does anybody want to have a meetup one afternoon and have dinner or something together? It'd be cool to meet some fellow RPers on DW and see where everybody plays and what characters they like.

You mean the magic vs. military m/m game? Unfortunately, the original person who was thinking of running it had to step back due to some real life commitments... I still want to make it happen, though.

But as I've been working on it, it seems to move farther and farther from the original idea of a m/m shipping game. To be honest, I'm more interested in doing it as a very plot-heavy AU/OU/OC game that's open to all genders, with the same focus on war, social conflict, and bonds between comrades. But if that's not what people want to play, then I could try to bring the focus back to shipping. So, I'm not sure what to do. I think I have a heavier, more intensive game in mind than what's popular in DWRP right now, so I need to give it some thought and figure out what appeals to people. But it's definitely still being worked on.
