Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. It doesn't look like DW can handle 5,000 comment entries at the moment so please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

But your suggestion was to move away from a situation if you don't like it, wasn't it? And the thing is that I kinda like RP so it's pretty hard to take part in a hobby like this and get out of it. You can't have it both ways.

You also seem to assume that I (and probably others) don't already adopt a tactic of minimal OOC interaction. I'm really shy so I tend to stick to IC interactions as much as I possible can but that doesn't mean I don't see how people treat each other in this fandom or that I don't notice some players flocking over each other and other equally good players get effectively snuffed at. You don't have to be neck-deep in this fandom OOCly to see these things.

I meant more get out of dealing with the people (people being fandom), and as I said uptop that's my fault for wording myself poorly and not being clear.

And no, you don't, but you can minimize your own interaction with it, and you can avoid where you know you're going to see it a lot and save yourself frustration.

And I'm not saying that this is a "must do, have to do" or anything like that. But since the way the original anon stated it it sounded like a prevalent issue for them I was providing a suggestion for how they might go about getting a more enjoyable experience out of this. It might not be a good idea for them and if so they can just ignore it.

I could but there's only so much avoiding you can do before you're effectively doing what you were taken to be saying and just get out of RP period.

It's also fine to make the suggestion but I think the above anons aren't wrong in seeming insulted by it. You may have meant something else but it does seem to pretty much boil down to "just turn a blind eye to it and pretend it's not there", even with your clarifications. If that works for you then that's good but judging from the attitudes I've seen expressed over the last couple of memes (and in past months) I think there's a sense that once you see these things then you can't unsee it, no matter how hard you avoid some of those places.

There's also associations that come with playing in a fandom where the largest and loudest attitudes are like this one. I know I have friends who know this fandom's state and reputation and specifically won't touch it because they just don't want to be associated with it, even if they don't have any OOC interaction at all.

That's probably true. I have a strong distance from fandom and its attitudes and reputations (as a general rule and not just DGM) so those kinds of issues really don't affect me personally and thus my ideas for how to fix the general frustration can be totally ineffective.
