rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

If you want to play them outside of memes, I would definitely recommend reading the extra material. End of series Madoka players should be up to date, especially since she'd know all of those timelines and would be aware of other magical girls from the world over. As the above anon said, if you're playing any of the other girls, the spin-off manga add a lot, especially for Mami, who appears in all of them. The drama CDs and the PSP game are also good for backstory and characterization.

You can skip the two movies, though, since they're literally just recuts of the show with some new animation. They add nothing you haven't seen already. Otherwise, it is considered a good idea to be up to date on the extra stuff. I really think the only character you could get away with skipping the expanded canon entries might be a side-character, like Hitomi or Kamijou, but even they get more information added on about how they react to certain kinds of events.

But if you're just screwing around in memes and psls, you'll probably be fine with just the tv series.
