rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

it's an action rpg. at first it's kind of jarring because the story/game does not give a shit about your existence. for instance, you get dropped off in the starting area with absolutely no clues on which of three or four paths to take. if you keep trying to go the wrong way the game will destroy you until you get it through your head to try a different direction, rather than flat-out directing you. it's a quiet, cold, dark world that hates you and the bosses are ridiculously huge and awful. but that's the appeal; it doesn't hold your hand at all, so it genuinely feels like a struggle, and when you win it's extremely satisfying and you know it's because you did well. if you're online, you'll also see glimpses of other people and it's a very neat sense of community and brohood that's tough to explain.

the story is also extremely weird and cool. it barely tells you anything outright, but if you pay attention there's a ton of nuances and connections to make. it's way more subtle than most rpgs these days. it's extremely sad and brutal, and if you really pay attention, you'll realize that even the main plot and NPCs may end up misleading to you.

don't buy it if you prefer intensely character-driven stories, or if you dislike action games. also if difficulty frustrates rather than challenges you, don't get it. it requires a certain amount of masochism and willingness to fail. but i think it's a really unique experience.
