Hello, anon! I assure you, there's nothing wrong with not wanting to become the best like no one ever was and focusing on other things instead; in fact, Route has had many characters who settled down in one place and led their lives without traveling around the world. It's even possible to rent a house, so your character would be more than welcome to spend their time as they wish!

As for the type preference, that's not a problem, either! I speak from experience here, since the character I play has a team consisting of almost exclusively Flying-types, and he's beaten all Johto gyms anyway. The type advantages aren't the only thing considered in getting a badge, but there are also levels and strategy, so it's definitely possible to defeat the gym leaders even with limited types on the team!
