Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-07 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)a question for the players
(Anonymous) 2013-01-08 05:21 am (UTC)(link)how do you do it?
Re: a question for the players
(Anonymous) 2013-01-08 07:49 am (UTC)(link)there's plenty for form a personality off of. if you mean lacking in history, well touch tits I guess, as there probably never will be anything there as it's not important in the games.
too many edits sorry for any trackers
I go with these usually, which mainly helps built up a personality and parts of canon history:
1) Meet the Team Videos — and all their official trailers/the outtakes of their videos and whatnot. All of it, really, then I pick out specific events/how they placed things/those quick little expressions they have and what not. i.e. How (RED) Heavy really feels about Pyro ( whose gender is a mystery forever ). I also noticed their official videos have small descriptions you can use for additional information.
2) Comics! It's easier checking them out with the wiki over rolling the official website.
3) The game itself if you have access to it! You get to really integrate your gameplay with your roleplay, you get to hear the character yell out their voice commands and responses whenever you shoot someone/call for medic/capture a point — you would be able to understand how happy or frustrating it is especially!
4) There have been some IC Blog posts on the official website, though I'm not sure how to track them without going through a lot of of the news feed.
5) Hats hats hats misc items! You can say Sniper was in a marching band once or that Spy is bisexual, or even Scout and that one time in a high school. It's up to you if you want to apply them since you can get away with it being technically canon. I know some people who don't.
You can also mention their unhealthy obsession over hats and hairstyles6) Headcanon & implications & just weird things Valve likes teasing us on; There are some super mysterious/vague things like Pyro's gender ( apparently there's a cloudy female sign in the video which could point out their gender ) and the implication of Heavy/Medic being a thing or just the bffs they are — that's up to you to decide/maybe just not mention it, or if you're playing with someone then you guys can talk over it! That pretty much goes with the player's decision with their cast.
It's really the history that you'll have to put headcanon in, imho, especially with a personal backstory until Valve releases them i.e. Spy's real name and whatnot/Medic stealing a catering van on the Prime Minister's ( which one! ) wedding day. If ever, I'd go with applying what happened in history until the twists are somehow stated in canon — or just be really vague with it, like how Lincoln was the first pyro.
I hope that helps! I'm sorry if ever it's a messy explanation.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-08 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)Not that there's anything wrong with playing Spy as bisexual, but jesus christ, don't try to use such a flimsy point to claim that it might be canon. Just play it and be done with it. Same with the Pyro gender, or Heavy/Medic. Don't try to find justifications that it MIGHT be canon. That's just stupid.

Additionally, I did say it's in the I have no idea/it's very very questionable territory. It's just that, in my experience, this canon and some of the things mentioned ( items, hats, etc ) makes things really flexible, but you'll have to put in account the history of that time ( maybe, considering it's been toyed with now and then ) and what not. A better example would have been Medic's gas mask which is a less flimsy point and more history content for him. I think it's because they have so little history that people try to find more information to make for them, see if it makes sense and is possibly canon, which is what I've been doing in a way. I do feel bad for making such mistakes however, I should have realized that instead of thinking that way.
I'm very tired right now so I'm afraid of making a mistake in wording at some parts. If I have, please point it out! I'd like to get better with this canon as well.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 08:05 am (UTC)(link)You do make a good point about items sometimes pointing out details about characters not otherwise mentioned elsewhere, though.
