[D] Free space

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

skrong! like king kong's schlong!

also, since you obviously missed the point, i'll show you the way back on course: it's not a change to be all "come on guys, everybody just play nice-nice" like this is some kindergarten class

when there's conflict, like there obviously is between people in this fandom, claiming that everyone should just be nice is the equivalent of playing ostrich and trying to sweep all the dirt under the rug so that nothing changes at all

trying to get people to act nice when they've actually got critical things to say is just asking people to be two-faced, and considering that the wankgate threads are the most conversation this fandom has seen in months, asking people to go back to just being "nice" is like asking everyone to stop talking so that the fandom can stagnate some more...and then pretending that that's good for everyone

so as funny as it is that your ass is so chapped over this, refusing to play your little ostrich game is just a matter of thinking in ways more advanced than a six year old's

newsflash: apart from a few loud anons with hypocritically chapped asses, the people in this fandom get along just fine

You mean that one main clique gets along fine and forms a circle to stick their fingers in each other's ears whenever someone says boo about them?

Ok? Have fun together and get along just fine idgaf but you aren't ALL the people in this fandom and not everyone gets along. That's not wank, that's just life, brosis.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-08 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
whose the one main clique--is it a group on plurk or a cast in a game

(Anonymous) 2013-01-08 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
What clique.

I'm being serious when I ask to know who this clique everyone goes on about is. I have played in three different DGM casts and I won't deny there can be issues every now and again, over all I've had the joy of playing with mature, fun-having castmates. Whenever I have tagged a DGM character in a meme, I have also had fun.

This is not to say that there are no problems in the fandom. I've seen a few myself. I'm just genuinely confused at how many people talk about "the clique(s)" when I have not yet found a specific "clique" resembling what people talk about. So where is this clique everyone uses as the example of all the terrible things that exist in the DGM fandom? Is it on the DR because I don't even touch the place so I can admit if it is there I wouldn't have seen it. Is it in a specific game? From what I know most games don't even have enough characters to be a formidable cast, let alone a clique.

I want to be able to talk about this fandom's problems and work them out so things are better as a whole. But when people keep bringing up problems and blaming people I never come across or making mass generalizations I know aren't true (negative generalizations about an entire fandom are really only asking for people to get insulted), it's hard to see things as being a "fandom issue" and not "issues with specific people in the fandom."

Plus I feel attacked when I do have a good time in this fandom and I express that. Obviously there's a shitton of wanky history in the fandom, and my good experiences don't invalidate the bad ones, blah blah. But the bad experiences people have don't invalidate the good ones I've had either and also so much of the ranting is deetless and without substance. If there's so many shitty players who are wanky buttholes in secret then drop names and pastebins or share stories or something.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Except not a single anon has said don't have fun so if you feel like these discussions are making you guilty for enjoying yourself then that's not only really self-centred of you but it's also your own issue to deal and not anyone else's fault.

da

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not true. This started with one anon being very rude because someone wanted to talk about how we think characters should be played instead of doing a normal "Favorites" thread (I wanted that thread, since I like those, but feel it should have been its own thread, not a way to one-up or undermine people who like doing the whole Favorites thing). Then it spiraled into anons going on about how everyone is "acting like there's nothing wrong in this fandom" and "sticking our heads in the sand" when the truth is some of us genuinely have no idea what the hell these angry anons are talking about. Some of us aren't involved whatsoever, but we're getting lumped into it anyway.

What about that won't make people who have fun feel guilty? It implies anyone enjoying themselves is part of the problem. Especially with how general and vague all of the claims were until someone explained things more below. We spend our time wondering if we're part of the clique or if our cast is doing something wrong and we never knew it. Sure some people are trying to ignore whatever problems might be existing in this fandom. But I'm betting a lot of us just haven't had the negative experiences other people seem to be having. Still, we've made to feel like it's our fault when so far all I've heard is about specific group of people and not everyone (even though originally people were basically saying all of us hated everyone else). So yeah, it feels like we're being made to feel bad for having fun when other people aren't.

I'm not saying the original anon was right for being so rude just because someone wanted to do something different or that all the people who jumped in to be jerks about pointing out that anon was wrong were in the right. Far from it. We shouldn't ignore whatever bad exists because eventually it will fester and keep spreading the infection (like it is now). But many of the anons here were painting everyone in the fandom with the same negative brush, too, and that's just as rude to the people who weren't even involved until this started here. And the negative little digs have been going on for months now. Neither solves whatever problems our fandom has, really, because we're just alienating each other when we should be working together.

someone answered the clique question at wankgate. http://wankgate.dreamwidth.org/8265.html?thread=21251657#cmt21251657

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
i knew it

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
So this is about people I barely know besides seeing their names on a meme once or twice, that I don't talk to, and thus are not involved in the part of the fandom I've been playing in for the last four years. The most I've ever seen of two of them is being on the plurk of someone I know who isn't even a part of this fandom. Why is the entire fandom getting blamed because of them? And if they are a big enough problem, what's the best way to go about changing that so the rest of us who have been enjoying ourselves can do that without their shadow over us?

This isn't a fandom-wide problem. People who like this fandom are attacked or made to feel guilty repeatedly because they aren't having bad experiences with this group or don't deal with this group enough to know them at all. I myself have probably never played with them before unless it was on a meme and I didn't know it. I can't say I know everyone in the fandom (but I've met a good share of people from it over the last four years), so it's more than possible.

If this is a problem then we need to have a way to deal with it and telling the fandom as a whole that its terrible and no one is allowed to have fun ever because this clique exists and behaves poorly is just as unhelpful as the people who act like everyone in the fandom is perfect and can do no wrong. It's like saying no one is allowed to like dogs because you were bit by one once.

let me run that through my bullshit to plain english translator for you:

"me and my friends get along just fine, and i think my friends constitute the fandom, so anyone who doesn't get along just fine with us doesn't count, isn't part of the fandom, and is just a trouble maker who we should write off as being butthurt"

pretty sure the only thing "hypocritical" that these "few loud anons" are doing is not being part of the cozy-box circle of friends that you want to designate as the fandom

some people just don't like complain

maybe they're just happier than you

So...fuck off out of this discussion and go have fun then.

But those of us who can actually see problems and are willing to speak about them shouldn't shut up for your sake.

keep on being mad

there won't be any change anyway to the fandom

i'm just saving my anger for things worth getting mad about

here's some pills for your high blood pressure

i'll just bet you think that being "non-confrontational" is a trait to be proud of, don't you

you go ahead not liking to complain, sweetie pie

while you're at it, you go ahead not troubling yourself with thinking or with conflict or with any of that other nasty not-nice stuff. that kind of stuff's for men and grown-ups anyway, not for good little girls like you

you're far too demure and meek and unassuming to do anything so unladylike as complain

and obviously you must be happier than those bad, impudent, cheeky girls who say critical things! good girls don't like to complain or to speak up or make their voices heard, and of course they're all happier that way! and that's what everyone's always told you you are, isn't it sugar cakes?
