The only thing keeping me from applying to this game is the amount of wank that tends to show up here (and on wankgate) over the last few months. Are the players really that cliquey/flaky/bitchy, or is safe to assume it's just a small handful of grudgewankers trying really hard to make people buttmad? It reads like the ladder most of the time, and if that's the case, why?

i just joined this month and i'm really hoping there won't be much wank/cliquing going on. the whole idea of ax seems really interesting and i'm hoping i won't be disappointed.

that being said i got a bad feeling about it though.

If you're tagging around aggressively and appraoching people individually to plot with them you should do fine.

The sillier wank tends to stay with certain individuals that get namedropped regularly. I've played with each one of them and haven't been pulled into any of the wank, either, and I'm pretty sure most if it is from previous games. The wank that appears due to legit player issues (activity, mostly, but sometimes character interpretation) is something that tends to happen at every game at one point or another.

The game as a whole is worth apping to and trying, in my opinion. And the drama is very easy to spot and thus avoid. I'd especially recommend trying an obscure character/lone canon warrior/OC to start off, then decide if you want to app into any established casts.

The premise looks interesting, but I'm not going to lie: the game's size plus the gossip that gets thrown around here and WG worries me a bit.

Just give it a shot anon. While yeah wg & rpanons has its fair share of drama and wank, I think it's far more enjoyable if you go in there with little to no expectations.

The size itself isn't a huge concern, at least not to me, and I'm the kind of person that shies away from huge games. Focus on the characters you're into and want to tag and form CR with and you're good to go imo.

reserves are screened, so the only people who are gonna know who you are is the mods (unless you do a DM post or approach current players yourself). they're also not an absolute promise, and ax runs a challenge system, so there's seriously no harm in it any which way you throw it.

Actually, yeah. Even with the wank we sometimes get here or on wg, it doesn't really filter back into the ooc atmosphere to stir up any drama, and most of the players are really friendly and nice.

I desperately want to go into a couple of people's plurks and say this, but it will have to be anon. I just want to offer a word of advice for people who want to get involved with the plot going on but don't know how. This is a great opportunity for you to do something and feel included, but you have to want it to happen.

First, if you're confused about what's happening, then read the posts. Don't scan them, then throw your hands in the air and blame the fact that it's too fast, or there's not enough OOC information. Everything you need to know is right there, and if you're confused about one particular thing then read it twice.

Secondly, getting involved in the plot right now is only about one thing. All you have to do is respond ICly to the situation. It's really that simple. You don't need to ask someone to give you something to do, all you have to do to get involved is respond precisely in the way your character would respond to that situation.

If your character is the kind to loudly proclaim that the whole thing is an outrage, then have them make a post, or better yet, have them respond to other people ranting and raving. Maybe you'll even see them have their opinion changed. That's an opportunity for character growth. If they want to go fight, all of the organization for that is being done ICly on those posts, too. There's no secret club on plurk dictating how everything is going to happen, and who gets to do fun things.

Thirdly, don't let it intimidate you. Yes, there's a lot going on, and yes that's on plurk as well as in the game, but all that OOC excitement is only background noise, unnecessary when it comes to going out and writing great threads with other people. Remember that you don't have to worry about stepping on other people's toes, or whether everything's already been done. Your character is the one you're playing, and they don't psychically know everything that's happening either. If you're confused, it's even possible that your character could be! They could have gone to sleep the previous night, and woken up to people dying all over the place.

Be bold. Play. Ask questions if you're really lost, but remember that Ataraxion isn't a game with a steady wash/rinse/repeat of status change events so much as an ever evolving metabeast, and that your character can just as much be a part of that evolution if you're willing to dig in at times like this and get involved.

You have to be the one to go out and do it. Nobody else will hold your hand through it, because an event like this tends to get everyone busy with their own things. You're not going to be handed plot, and there's no status change for you to effortlessly make it all about your character. You have to go out and tag people, or make yourself available to be tagged.

Interesting advice... Appreciate it, as someone who's hoping to get into this game and has problems settling into games a lot.

also going to add if you think the only way to get involved is to go out and try to find things to fight you won't be happy here. interpersonal cr is the key not the up up down down left right left right fps angle.
