rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

this seems a little petty, but

characters who come into a game with a phone/communication device and, regardless of their familiarity with and skill with technology, instantly know how to use every single feature of their phone, including how to make maximum-security unhackable posts filtered to their castmates. if it's a canon ability for them, okay. but not everyone with just a passing familiarity with computers (or no knowledge of computers at all) is realistically going to be able to outwit every potential snoop or hacker every single time.

and related to this, players who abuse filters/unhackableness so their only interaction is ever with canonmates or close cr. or even just make ostensibly open posts that only their canonmates/close cr would be interested in anyway. it's frustrating to see a character i'd really like to tag, but my character is never able to or never has a reason to reply to them.

I feel like the first one less a case of "lol my character can do anything" and more assuming that the default filters of the game's communication devices are super good at stopping hackers. Especially since a lot of games will say they're either highly advanced technology or magic.

But that definitely doesn't apply to all games, and I would also find it annoying if I was in games where it didn't.

yeah, if it was a game mechanic it would be more reasonable and acceptable- but it bugs me it when it's done without thought or to show how cleversmart a character is.
