Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. It doesn't look like DW can handle 5,000 comment entries at the moment so please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
I've been thinking about apping into this game for a bit and I have to ask this after reading the past few anoncomm threads.

Is it always so venomous and vitriolic at CnC? It seems like there's a lot of hate going on behind the scenes.

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Not a player here, but a friend's been trying to enable me into her cast for awhile so I started reading the threads.

This is a little worse than normal because of the HMD and that Snape thing, but yeah from my perspective it's pretty wanky.

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, there's some people with grudges on certain people. And these people that keep being brought up are actually problem players, even if the complaints here are said less than kindly, they aren't really invalid.

But overall it's really not that wanky. Like, unless you're like these people being brought up on anoncomm (ooc, unwilling to take crit, being a total jerk, being overbearing and god/infomodding without regard), you're not going to have any issues.

If you think someone's really a problem player, can you please take it to the mods? Mods can't act on stuff posted to anoncomm, but they can act on stuff brought to them directly.

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
i personally haven't had issue with these players, just see how they behave on plurk for the most part, which you can't really report because it's not against the rules as much as it is just really off-putting and childish. i hope that if some people that are actually affected directly they have or consider it now. we've had players in the past people just sort of tiptoed around and never reported bad behaviour until it escalated to a point there was no choice but to go to the mods.

The mods aren't unaware of some of these issues. But discipline is done privately, so if anything is done (other than a ban) we don't know about it. In the mean time, I simply won't play with people I have serious problems with, cast mate or not.

If you have a thick skin, it's worth it. If you don't, it might not be a good fit. That's about as plain as I can make it.

Why does someone always make This Comment? On every single post with controversy. Invariably.

A pointer, anon: if you're looking to app into a place without wank because you are put off by its existence, try not to begin your process by actively searching for wank at the community designed to air it.

It's anoncomm. People come here to vent. Yes, you'll find some civil discussion, but this is also where bitching happens. Of course there is wank here!

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
To be absolutely honest, the people that get brought up on these memes are a special brand of heinous. If you look back through the anoncomms, its always the same few who are mentioned because they play their characters either very oocly or they're godmoddy/infomoddy and refuse to acknowledge it/put on a holier than thou attitude and tell critters to fuck off.

If you're none of the above, you'll never have any trouble.

I've been here 3 years and personally have seldom experienced much venom or vitriol. We get fits and bursts of a small handful of problem people which makes the same handful explode in anoncomm. But this comm is no more representational of C&C itself than any other meta-rp-site.

If the game's premise looks good to you, and you read through people's posts and think, "wow, I would have so much fun responding to this," then apply. In the best case scenario, you realize the stuff about wank is hype and you have a great time. In the worst case scenario, you drop when you stop having fun and move on. But at least you know you tried rather than jumped to a wrong conclusion based on incomplete information.

previously played at C&C, here.

every game is going to have wank, it's just... really common at C&C, I hate to say. but if you can overlook that there are a lot of fun and welcoming players to RP with. if you don't pay too much attention to RPS or rpanons or anticirclejerk, you won't really run into it very much. although that's easier said that done, but you get the idea. sometimes you just have to take the bad with the good, idk.

not all the people brought up over and over are problem players

cnc has known grudgewankers

Are you implying that Murder and Dalrint aren't problem players? Because I'd sure enjoy hearing the reasoning behind that.

i hate to break it to you, but murder has been causing drama at c&c since before she was even accepted into the game.

People should also keep in mind one or two people that have been banned from this game like to cause the most trouble for CnC :) So statements like this are always suspect.

Yeah, there's one player that was banned nearly a year ago that still regularly checks in on the game and stalks current player's plurks and holds strong grudgewank against people still there.

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Another former player, and unfortunately: yes.

I played here for over a year, and I loved it, and the quality of writing is the best I have found at any game (even the wank is well written). I feel that it brought my own writing up to another level, but the ooc atmosphere is toxic. Even if you ignore anon/rps/plurk, and even if you are never wanked about (I never was) it still weighs on the game. Suddenly everyone will be in a bad mood and thinking about dropping. Suddenly all tagging will stop dead. Suddenly there will be mass drops. That's how you'll know: CnC is wanking again. It happens on a weekly basis. It made me paranoid and distrustful of my fellow players. I ultimately dropped because I felt uncomfortable taking any chances with my character.

I miss it, but I don't think I could take the heat again.

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
There are cycles of this once in awhile, not going to lie but......a weekly basis? We haven't had a mass drop or anything beyond grumping over some players like you're seeing right now.

I've been in this game 2 or so years and there was never a period in its time there was massive wank and mass drops or tags coming to a standstill or what have you on a weekly basis. Not even a bimonthly basis.

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
A weekly basis? Hardly. I've been in the game for two years, and the only time people seem to get all wound up like this is around HMD time. That's every two months, btw.

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, but I've also been in the game for years and I've never seen anything like what you're talking about because of wank. The only time I've seen it happen at all was last month because of LJ.

Re: A question

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
In my experience? No. I've been in the game off and on for three years. The biggest "problem players" or the people with the worst reputations are often those who can't take crit. I've stayed with CnC because it does have standards, but I expect my fellow players to live up to them.

Other than the critting issue, I find people easy to plot with and more than that eager for any sort of cross canon CR (which can be an issue in games this big). The people brought up in this thread and their particular situations are the exception to the rule, not what's typical.
