Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. It doesn't look like DW can handle 5,000 comment entries at the moment so please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

So, has all this delicious new class information affected any of your fancharacters in any way?

Nope! It's actually meshed extremely well with what I'd already made up. I'm sure my luck can't hold out like this, but I'm still ridiculously excited to learn more about this stuff.

Mostly it's just had me hold off on giving her the first part of her title—originally she was a Maid but I'm worried it won't fit her as well!

I'm kind of hoping we get a female equivalent to the function of a Bard class because its purpose would be perfect for her, though.

I'm holding out for a female equivalent to the Prince myself.

Just a little. I'm working on a huge fic and of course the one character the Bard class would be perfect for and I had designated as Bard... is female. So now I need to rearrange everything to figure out what class to give her, and what male character might possibly be a Bard. But... It really doesn't fit any of the guys.

Aaaargh.

Would you be able to just flip her gender?

Ordinarily I would say yes, and then just rework the things that would change about personality and such due to being male instead of female, but it's an AU using canon characters. (That I am already woefully behind on, as it is a fill for a request on the kink meme that was quite gen, but that's besides the point.) While I'm cool with AU, I don't particularly want to make it that alternate, especially not when I am technically writing for someone else.

(Honestly half the reason I'm behind is because right before I was going to get the next bit up, Hussie updated for the first time with info about classes and aspects, at which point I had to do my first rearrangement. I'm about ready to just ask the poor prompter if they care that some of my assumptions might end up wildly off base just so I can get back to posting. Besides, I'm already moderately certain that I've assigned a different character the wrong class for their gender, so I kind of want to get to that point before Hussie proves me right. I just really didn't expect Bard to be male only. Of course, I know nothing of bardic tradition; my friend who is really into that stuff was a bit surprised I didn't think it would be male only.)

I do have to wonder, just for curiosity more than anything, how Skaia assigns classes. After all, it's based off of whether you're male or female, right? So, how would this be decided for a trans character? Is it based off of the sex they are ectobiologically created with, or is it based off of the gender the character actually is?

Of course, the first one would be problematic in that it ignores the character's actual gender identity, and is very gender essentialist. However, if it did work that way for whatever reasons (Skaia only knows the ectobiologically created genetics, for example), then you could potentially have a female Bard or Prince, or a male Witch or Maid (because tell me those two classes aren't female only).

Yeah, I feel like Skaia would just ignore the gender identity of the character. It would presumably be easier for Skaia to 'read' the ectobiological gender than test their mind to see what they identify as. Maybe it is gender essentialist, but it makes a bit of sense in that Skaia is a program, if an extremely vast and complicated one.

And what about people who don't identify as either of those?

What's to say Skaia doesn't have classes prepared for just such an occasion?

Oddly enough, even though I still am kind of slackjawed about the whole Prince/Bard destroyer shit (because come the fuck on everyone knows that Prince/Heir would make so much more fucking sense and there is not a soul in the fandom who did not expect it after Thief/Rogue), the person I had designated as a Prince less on basis of an actual inheritance status and more on a harsh cold Amporan destructive nature... well, yeah, it worked out for me somehow.

Finding anyone to tag as a Bard is gonna be hell now, though.

Well, not every session has a bard, if that helps.
